In one of the strangest comparisons that no one saw coming, Machine Gun Kelly was recently interviewed about his upcoming movie, where he compared his success to the likes of the partnership that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have shared. The difference is that Kelly is a musician that is barely dabbling in the realm of filmmaking, and both Affleck and Damon are celebrated and Academy Award-winning actors. However, the pair won an Oscar for their script when they wrote the classic film, Good Will Hunting. MGK is referring to his long-time collaboration with his friend, Pete Davidson. According to the rapper, “Maybe we should thank Ben Affleck and Matt Damon because they set the bar and we were like, ‘Hmm, maybe we should do that.'”

Pete Davidson certainly has more acting experience than Machine Gun Kelly does, as he the comedian has appeared in several films. One of his most recent films is The King of Staten Island, which Judd Apatow produced. MGK, on the other hand, is starring, co-writing, and producing his first full-length feature, Good Mourning. The stoner comedy also stars his fiancé, Megan Fox. It appears as if Kelly is attempting to break into many different lanes of creation. The rapper recently won a Grammy for Best Rock album, as he transitioned from hip-hop to a more pop punk-inspired sound. Now, he is setting his sights on the big screen. Hats off to the man for constantly trying to evolve his creativity, but he has a long way to go when it comes to being in the same league as Affleck and Damon.

Machine Gun Kelly collaborated with Pete Davidson on his 2019 album, Big Time Adolescence. Davidson is also set to appear in the stoner comedy that has a May 20th release date. However, MGK now thinks that he and Davidson might be able to write the next big hit after they have worked so well with one another so far. MGK has loft ambitions for his new film, as he wants this Good Mourning film to be mentioned in the same light as Half Baked, Grandma’s Boy, and Pineapple Express. Those are all iconic films in the comedy and stoner sections of films. According to co-writer Mod Sun, “We wanted to invent something that can live on in the stoner archives.” Time will tell if this film is set to achieve that huge honor in the next two weeks when it makes its debut.

Good Mourning stars Machine Gun Kelly, Pete Davidson, Megan Fox, Whitney Cummings, Dove Cameron, Zach Villa, and Becky G. The film centers around movie star, London Clash. Clash is set to take on the role of a lifetime before his girlfriend sends him a breakup text. Now the actor must choose between chasing the “love of his life” or landing the biggest role of his career. The film has the makings of a weed-induced romantic comedy.

Machine Gun Kelly might find out soon that his filmmaking career might not be all it’s cracked up to be when Good Mourning comes out on May 20th in theaters and for streaming. This will be his first venture into his own creative film, so it might not be at the same level as what Ben Affleck and Matt Damon would produce, but we shall see. You can’t knock the guy for trying.
