When the future Nova Prime actress Glenn Close starred in Fatal Attraction in 1987, her performance set the world on fire. Her depiction of a psychopathically clingy woman who turns an extramarital affair into a horrific, life-altering nightmare led to the film grossing $320 million — a sum that would be worth $820 million today, roughly around the amount that Wonder Woman made in 2017. Now, we’ve got a glimpse of how Lizzy Caplan will interpret the iconic character in the upcoming Fatal Attraction series on Paramount+.

The teaser shows only small snippets of the Now You See Me star’s performance in the new series. It appears to show the characters played by Lizzy Caplan and Fringe star Joshua Jackson beginning their relationship and hints at the stalking that makes up most of Fatal Attraction’s plot.

The original, pre-Lizzy Caplan version of Fatal Attraction follows Michael Douglas’s character as he deals with the consequences of his affair with a mentally unstable woman. The woman refuses to leave him alone after the affair, showing up at his office, calling him, and following him home. As the title implies, this stalking eventually leads to lethal consequences.

We don’t have any hint of Joshua Jackson’s family or work life, as his relationship with Lizzy Caplan seems to be the main focus of the Fatal Attraction trailer. However, we know his family will play a major part in the show and might even play a bigger role than he does. Alyssa Jirrels and Amanda Peet, who play Jackson’s daughter and wife, have higher billing than him on IMDB

Judging by the trailer alone, Lizzy Caplan does remarkably well playing up the “attraction” part of Fatal Attraction, with a performance that plays up a seductiveness that will presumably lead to the “fatal” part of the title. However, since the series will go on for eight episodes rather than the two hour runtime of the original film, the story will likely be much more of a slow burn. The series promises a deep dive into the original movie’s premise, and there’s a good chance it’ll deliver on that promise.

Lizzy Caplan has appeared in many high-profile films and shows before being cast in Fatal Attraction. Her first role was that of Sara in the cult classic TV series Freaks and Geeks, and she eventually moved on to having roles in SmallvilleMean Girls, and Cloverfield. She later appeared in True BloodHot Tub Time Machine, and 127 Hours

Lizzy Caplan appeared in a TV series based on a popular film before her role in Fatal Attraction. She appeared as Carla Monroe in season 1 of Das Boot, a 2018 series that serves as a sequel to the 1981 film of the same name. Her character was an American communist fighting against the Nazis in France.

You can catch Lizzy Caplan’s performance in the Fatal Attraction series when it premieres on Paramount+ on April 30, 2023.
