Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence seem to be the kind of pairing that Hollywood should have put together a long time ago. That is now the case as they are set to share the screen in the new trailer for Don’t Look Up. The upcoming film explores the issues that two scientists face when attempting to warn the collective world about a giant asteroid that is set to collide with Earth. Plenty of jeers and condescending tones are shared by news anchors and the collective government alike when being warned about impending doom.

The trailer shows Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), who are low-level astronomers, attempting to convince the world of its end. They discover an asteroid that is set to collide with Earth, but it seems no one is taking the threat as seriously as they do. From begging the government to take them seriously, to Dibiasky screaming in the middle of a newscast, the two astronomers have a hard time convincing anyone to take the threat of extinction as real. Although there is an intensity about the trailer, there are plenty of laughs that are delivered by Jennifer Lawrence’s character.

Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence’s most recent films were released in 2019. DiCaprio played the failing television star Rick Dalton in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. While Lawrence was seemingly spending her final time playing Mystique in X-Men: Dark Pheonix. Don’t Look Up appears to be a much different film than either has been in as of late.

Jonah Hill is set to costar with Leonardo DiCaprio, which is sure to be exciting as the pair had shared huge success with the popularity of The Wolf of Wall Street. Hill plays Jason Orlean, who is an aide to President Janie Orlean (Meryl Streep). Tyler Perry, Timothee Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, singer Ariana Grande, and Ron Perlman round out this already star-studded cast.

Adam McKay has written the story along with David Sirota. McKay will also be directing this picture and is famous for directing The Big Short, Anchorman, The Other Guys, and Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby. Don’t Look Up doesn’t seem like the kind of picture that McKay is used to being behind, especially in dealing with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, but the dark comedy type of themes in the trailer hit well.

Although Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the bigger stars of this film, it’s not as though Adam McKay is not used to working with method-type actors like Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling, who all starred in The Big Short. Christian Bale is among one the biggest method actors in Hollywood.

Don’t Look Up is set to release December 10th in select theaters and on December 24th for Netflix, which is sure to set great numbers for families getting together for the holidays. Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio look to have a ton of chemistry that will likely lead to another well-received film from writer and director Adam McKay.
