Executive Decision is currently available on Tubi, the free streaming service owned by the Fox Corporation. Billed as an action thriller, the 1996 film is directed by Stuart Baird from a script by Jim and John Thomas. The incredible cast, led by Kurt Russell, also features Steven Seagal, Halle Berry, and John Leguizamo. Several other talented actors also star.

The story follows a group of United States military and intelligence personnel who board a commercial airliner headed for Greece to prevent a terrorist leader from carrying out a deadly attack. The team is led by U.S Army intelligence specialist David Grant (Kurt Russell) and Lieutenant Colonel Austin Travis (Steven Seagal).

Although the terrorists claim they hijacked the plane to force the American government to release their leader, Grant (Kurt Russell) and Travis (Steven Seagal) discover that the aircraft is carrying a bomb filled with nerve gas which the criminals plan to release over Washington D.C. The operation involves a stealth fighter jet refueling in mid-air which allows the team to board via the cargo hold.

The pair are assisted by a flight attendant named Jean (Halle Berry), who provides information about the passengers and crew. With thousands of lives at stake, Grant (Kurt Russell) and Travis (Steven Seagal) must work together to regain control of the plane, disarm the bomb, and neutralize the terrorists. But their task is filled with several dangerous obstacles.

In the end, the threat is successfully neutralized with the bomb safely disarmed. But this success was not without a significant sacrifice. Travis sacrificed himself by closing the 747’s hatch to prevent the plane from decompressing. Speaking to Empire, Seagal said he found satisfaction in knowing that his character’s unexpected death would shock viewers.

Released in March 1996, Executive Decision earned $122 million against a budget of just $55 million. The film currently holds a 63% critics score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The Site’s general consensus describes the Kurt Russell film as an entertaining “classic action thriller,” which sticks to a trusted formula that proves that stories don’t have to be completely original to be successful.

Overall, Executive Decision is a thrilling action movie that explores themes of terrorism, sacrifice, and heroism. The film features strong performances from its cast, particularly Kurt Russell and Steven Seagal. Over the years, it became well-regarded for its realistic depiction of military tactics and procedures.
