Word is that Krysten Ritter is returning to the role of Marvel’s Jessica Jones. As we previously reported, our trusted and proven sources had indicated that Ritter would reprise her fan-favorite Netflix character in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe character, and now we are getting further confirmation. According to Screen Geek, they have also been told that Ritter is going to be included in the MCU very soon. At this point, it seems less of a question if we will see Krysten Ritter kicking ass in the MCU as when said asses will be kicked.

Krysten Ritter began portraying Jessica Jones in 2015 on the titular Netflix series. It was an immediate hit and a critical darling, eventually winning a Peabody Award, Hugo Award, and Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award. The show continued for three seasons and culminated in the crossover Defenders series, which saw Ritter’s superpowered private detective team up with Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). While Krysten Ritter’s own series was consistently well-regarded, its fellow Netflix series were not as lucky and by the time of The Defenders, it seemed the Marvel Netflix franchise had run out of steam.

However, earlier this year Disney (Marvel Studios’ parent company) made the decision to not renew Netflix’s license for its Marvel shows and moved them over to its own Disney+ streaming platform. That caused some waves, as parental groups protested over the inclusion of the mature-themed Marvel shows on the family-friendly service. In particular, the brutal, graphic violence of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and its themes of sexual assault and abuse concerned some. At the same time, everyone else in the world immediately wanted to know if those characters were going to be incorporated into the MCU proper.

While we have not yet seen or heard from Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones in the MCU, we have already gotten confirmation of some kind of plan from Marvel Studios. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock/Daredevil cameoed in Spider-Man: No Way Home to rapturous fan delight, while his nemesis Kingpin aka Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) appeared in the Jeremy Renner/Hailee Steinfeld Disney+ series Hawkeye. It is still somewhat unclear whether these appearances are intended to be the versions of the characters from the Netflix series or new ones. It both helps and makes it a bit more confusing that the MCU has been going all-in on a multiverse concept, which potentially allows for them to be Loki-style variants.

It will have to remain to be seen whether Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones in her own Disney+ series, a solo movie, or an appearance in some other project. Given Marvel Studios’ track record so far, it seems likely we see Krysten Ritter pop up as a consultant for the Fantastic Four or being called as a witness in one of She-Hulk’s trials, but we will just have to wait and see. It also seems only a matter of time until we could potentially have a Defenders reunion in the MCU, even if that means we have to deal with Iron Fist again.
