Krysten Ritter is best known for intense, troubled roles in dark series like Breaking Bad and Jessica Jones (and to a lesser extent, a comedic version of the same in Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23). It makes a lot of sense that she would be joining another dark, intense series by starring in the upcoming AMC spin-off of Orphan Black. The new show was greenlit by the network in April of this year, and while there are still few details about the show, casting Krysten Ritter as the lead of the new show is a pretty good sign of things to come. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krysten Ritter will also executive produce on the Orphan Black spinoff.

Per reports, Krysten Ritter will be starring in the show as a character named Lucy who has “an unimaginable origin story” and “is trying to find her place in the world.” Knowing the world of Orphan Black, there is a pretty solid chance that the unimaginable origin story will involve human cloning of some kind and probably some cult stuff. The AMC spin-off of the show will be titled Orphan Black: Echoes and is said to be an entirely new story set within the same world as the original series. The first series first ran on the Space network in Canada and BBC America in the United States and was produced by Temple Street Productions (who will also be producing Orphan Black: Echoes). The new Krysten Ritter-led show will be entirely written by Anna Fishko, who is best known for working on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and the USA Network science fiction series Colony

Like Anna Fishko, Krysten Ritter has experience with AMC. She starred in the breakout series Breaking Bad as the doomed drug user Jane Margolis, eventually becoming a key recurring character; she would reprise the role in the Netflix follow-up film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. In addition to that Netflix project, she starred as the title character in the acclaimed Marvel show Jessica Jones, in which portrayed an alcoholic, super-powered private detective dealing with a past traumatic relationship. Krysten Ritter would return to the role for the less-acclaimed Defenders series. She has also been heavily rumored to return as Jessica Jones for the Marvel Cinematic Universe of the character.

The original Orphan Black series starred Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany, who herself is coincidentally making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon. In August, Disney+ will premiere She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, in which Tatiana Maslany plays Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner’s Hulk. If all goes well, we might someday see the superstrong Krysten Ritter and Tatiana Maslany team up to take down the equally superstrong Titania (Jameela Jamil). But at the very least, we know we will be seeing Krysten Ritter in Orphan Black: Echoes. The series was approved by AMC for a ten-episode order and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2023.
