Kim Cattrall Returning To Sex And The City Even Though She Has No Contact With Other Stars

Kim Cattrall will have a brief voice cameo in And Just Like That... the Sex and the City spinoff series.

When HBO announced that it would be rebooting its hit series Sex and the City, fans were excited to see all the ladies back together again. Unfortunately, bad blood between two of the leading gals meant that Kim Cattrall wouldn’t come back to the rebooted series And Just Like That… Now going into its second season, Cattrall is having a change of heart and will be making a brief but exciting cameo although her cast mate Evan Handler revealed that no one in the cast actually worked face-to-face with the actress on her big return.

According to an interview with People, Evan Handler says that while Kim Cattrall’s big return to the world of New York City is “great,” neither he nor any of the other actors actually saw Cattrall on set. This is because she opted for a cameo which meant that she wouldn’t need to have contact with anyone else, with production filming her from a garage. So, while Samantha Jones will be heard in the show’s next installment, don’t expect to see her face.

Longtime fans of the franchise will know that after six seasons and two movies, Kim Cattrall called it quits on the role of Samantha Jones, stepping down before the gang was able to get cameras rolling on a third feature. In the time between the original story and last year’s pickup of And Just Like That… a lot has happened between Cattrall and her co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. The duo have one of the most legendary spats in Hollywood.

Nonetheless, when a sequel series was greenlit at HBO, production never bothered to reach out to Kim Cattrall because the star had made it more than clear that she was never interested in going down that road again. During the debut season of And Just Like That… Samantha is alluded to several times with Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw seen texting her and the group of women talking about missing their friend. Things have changed for the foursome as three of them still live in the Big Apple while Samantha is now set in London.

Even though her voice will be heard in the spin-off’s sophomore season, those at the top of the production want everyone to be clear that this doesn’t mean that Kim Cattrall will be reprising her role as Samantha. This quick interaction will merely be a one-off opportunity for audiences to hear the character’s voice one last time – although with the door open and time said to heal all wounds, who knows if Cattrall will have a change of heart down the line.

For now, audiences will just have to be happy with the next chapter of And Just Like That… While Kim Cattrall may not be coming back anytime soon, we still have Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, and Evan Handler returning as well as the tease that John Corbett will be reprising his role as Aidan Shaw in the sophomore season. Season 2 drops on Max on June 22.
