Kevin Hart is one of the true comedy stars we have going these days considering he’s among the most famous comedians hitting the screen. And he’s also one of the busiest guys out there as well, making movie after movie over the last ten years or so. Many of his flicks are in the “buddy” vein of things, mining laughs from his demeanor and attitude and how it usually stands in stark contrast to nearly everyone else on-screen. Well, now he can add another buddy to the list. Deadline is reporting that Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson are teaming up for The Man from Toronto and they’ve scheduled a release date for next year.
The concept for The Man from Toronto is fairly simple. Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson are two very different guys in their regular lives. Hart’s Teddy is a total screw-up who’s had trouble with even the most basic things in life. Meanwhile, Harrelson is the titular “Man from Toronto” who also happens to be one of the world’s deadliest assassins. The two cross paths when they are mistaken for each other at an Airbnb. It’s a little unclear about how the action and comedy unfold in this film, but the mistaken identity plot device is a time-honored one and could mine some laughs.
In addition to Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, there are some other big names on board for this film. Kaley Cuoco and Ellen Barkin both have roles. Plus there’s Pierson Fode who plays the “Man from Miami” who’s presumably another assassin hot on the trail of the two main characters. Patrick Hughes is set to direct and that means the film could have a heavy action element to it. He’s been behind the camera for The Expendables 3 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Plus he’s got a follow-up to the latter film coming with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard releasing this year with Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek.
Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson will release The Man from Toronto on Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend in February of 2022. According to the Deadline report, this has been a successful timing for Hart in the past with his Ride Along movies both releasing to solid box office numbers during this weekend in the past.
After a down 2020 due to Covid delays and other pandemic-related closings, Kevin Hart is set to tick things back up on screen over the next couple of years. In addition to this movie with Woody Harrelson he has a number of other films in the works. First there’s Fatherhood in a smaller role. Things really pick up with The Man From Toronto and then Borderlands, My Own Worst Enemy and Uptown Saturday Night hitting screens all in 2022 and beyond.
As for Woody Harrelson, it’s not just comedies with Kevin Hart on his plate. There’s also the upcoming television series The Most Dangerous Man in America. He’ll be playing Timothy Leary, the famed psychologist, and writer who experimented with psychedelic drugs. This film will focus on his infamous escape from prison in 1970. But before all that Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson are going to buddy up for a comedy that will almost for sure bring some laughs in what has to be the worst Airbnb mix-up in recent memory.
