Kevin Feige Wants Ryan Gosling In The MCU
Kevin Feige says he wants to "find a place"for Ryan Gosling in the MCU.
Kevin Feige is the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pulling all the strings and narrative threads. As well as this, Feige has a major role to play in selecting the talent that enters the MCU. CBR.com reports that one such talented individual that Feige has his eye on is none other than Ryan Gosling.
Feige spilled the beans on not only what he thinks of Ryan Gosling in the MCU, but several other fun teasers for the future of Marvel Studios’ content when chatting with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. Horowitz refers to an interview he had with Gosling as part of the press tour for the Canadian actor’s new Netflix movie The Gray Man – coincidentally directed by the Avengers: Endgame helmsman, the Russo brothers – where the actor confessed that he would like to play Ghost Rider in the MCU and asks Feige what he thinks of such a casting. The Marvel Studios executive producer replied to Horowitz, saying; “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider…Ryan’s amazing, I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”
Ghost Rider has of course graced the big-screen before courtesy of two films starring Nicholas Cage as the titular villain and The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus is another name, like Ryan Gosling, that has expressed an interest in taking up the flaming mantle of Johnny Blaze in future Marvel films. Horowitz acknowledges Reedus when speaking with Kevin Feige about Gosling and then the pairs discussion shifts to another mega superstar, Harry Styles. Styles made his MCU debut in the end-credits scene of Eternals, as Thanos’ less purple brother Eros, aka Starfox. Feige told Josh Horowitz that Harry Styles will be returning to the MCU down the line as Eros with his trusty companion Pip; “The adventures of Eros and Pip is something that is very exciting for us,” the exec producer said.
When discussing Harry Styles, Kevin Feige brought Ryan Gosling’s favorite Ghost Rider back into the conversation, noting how the MCU is fighting on several fronts. First the supernatural, with characters such as Blade (getting his own MCU solo film with Mahershala Ali in the title role on November 3rd, 2023) and Doctor Strange. Secondly, Feige mentions street-level heroes, which he noted will be spearheaded by Daredevil (getting a mammoth 18-episode long series on Disney Plus streaming in Spring, 2024) and Spider-Man. Third and final, Feige mentioned the cosmic, a key facet of what is now labeled The Multiverse Saga aka Phases four, five, and six of the MCU. The cosmic is “where our friends Eros and Pip live,” according to Feige.
There’s certainly a lot of new and exciting news coming out of the MCU thanks to the San Diego Comic-Con and adding Ryan Gosling to the mix only makes that even more exciting. Whether or not he gets his wish as the franchises Ghost Rider remains to be seen, but with Feige singing the actor’s praises the rumor mill will be spinning faster than ever. Should Ryan Gosling’s MCU dream fail to familiarize, he can at least fall back on the fact that his new movie The Gray Man has been given the go-ahead on a sequel.
