The Bodyguard is returning to theaters in celebration of the film’s 30th anniversary. Fans will get to relive the romantic drama led by Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner on Sunday, November 6th, and Wednesday, November 9th. The movie was theatrically released by Warner Bros Pictures in 1992 and earned $411 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 1992 behind Aladdin.

But despite becoming the 10th highest-grossing movie of all time in that year, The Bodyguard was maligned by critics for its screenplay and performances from Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. As a result, the film was nominated for seven Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, and Worst Actress.

However, the Kevin Costner starrer’s accompanying album became the best-selling soundtrack album of all time. It sold over 45 million copies worldwide and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Composed by Houston, the singles “I Have Nothing” and “Run to You” also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It’s also tied for the 13th-biggest-selling record in U.S. history with 18 million-plus units, Deadline reports.

The Bodyguard tells the story of pop icon Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston), as she navigates an unknown stalker sending her disturbing threats. This prompts Rachel to hire Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), an ex-secret service agent, as her bodyguard. But their relationship quickly becomes complicated as the lines between professionalism and romance become blurred.

Directed by Mick Jackson from a script by Lawrence Kasdan, The Bodyguard was originally written in the mid-1970s, originally as a project for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross. But when both stars declined for various reasons, the movie was stuck in a developmental vortex for years. Then, while making Silverado with Kasdan, Kevin Costner read the script and became enthusiastic about it.

So the pair decided to produce it together. And after Kevin Costner became a major star with the success of The Untouchables and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, he had the clout to make The Bodyguard. Following an extensive search for the perfect co-star, the actor announced that he would star in the film alongside Whitney Houston in 1991.

Speaking about the Kevin Costner film’s re-release, Senior Vice President of Programming and Content Acquisitions for Trafalgar Releasing, Kymberli Frueh said, “We are pleased to partner with Warner Bros. to bring this anniversary celebration to fans.” She added that The Bodyguard’s story and songs are indelibly etched on the hearts of movie and music fans all around the globe.

Tickets for The Bodyguard, starringWhitney Houston and Kevin Costner, go on sale on September 28 at 10:00 a.m. ET from TheBodyguard30.com. The announcement also comes as the trailer for the singer’s biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody was released. The project will hit theaters on December 21st.

Meanwhile, Kevin Costner can be seen as John Dutton in the upcoming season of Yellowstone. Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, the series focuses on the Dutton family who owns the largest ranch in America. The series was renewed for a fifth season earlier this year and will air in two installments of seven episodes each. The first episode of the new season is set to debut on November 13th.
