Karl Urban Finally Returning For Dredd 2?
Karl Urban is arguably the best Judge Dredd that has appeared on the big screen, and now the man has been hinting that he could appear in Dredd 2.
Coming off his spectacular run as Billy Butcher in The Boys, Karl Urban has been asked plenty about the possibility of him returning as Judge Dredd in Dredd 2. Urban starred in the rebooted Dredd film in 2012. Hard to believe that it was 10 years ago, but it surely stuck in the minds of everyone who happens to be a fan of the character. The movie was arguably one of the best reboots that had come out. When Urban was asked about reprising the role he stated, “I certainly would be interested to revisit the character.” He added, “To me, it doesn’t bother me if I get the opportunity to play Dredd again or if it’s someone else. The video is quite fascinating, as Urban speaks on the many iconic roles that he has portrayed in his career. Honestly, there are a lot. But he goes back and details his thoughts on those characters, which leads to the segment about Dredd. Urban goes into detail about what it was like to shoot the movie and how the stories created by John Wagner should be explored much further. We could not agree more. Hopefully, Karl Urban is asked to reprise the role in Dredd 2. There have been multiple reports that a new Judge Dredd series is in the works, but it sounds like Urban might not know if he is in conversations to portray Dredd.
For all we know, Karl Urban could be messing with everyone and making it seem as though he has not been cast as Judge Dredd in Dredd 2, or in the new series. That would certainly be a great and welcomed surprise. Even though he never took off his helmet in the entire film, his grimaced face, and proclivity for unabashed lawful killings were perfect. He played the role so well, and that is why most fans have been clamoring for him to return to the character. We have all seen how amazing he is in TV roles, as the previously mentioned role of Billy Butcher was expertly portrayed by the man. He could transition much easier to a new TV role where he roams the streets as Judge Dredd.
For now, we will all be patient for The Boys Season 4 to come out, which will see Karl Urban return as Billy Butcher. The new Judge Dredd series is aptly titled, Judge Dredd: Mega City One is also currently in the works, and there have been rumors linking Urban to the titular role. Again, he could be tricking everyone by saying he is not involved. Hopefully, that is the case, as it would be complete fan service to see the man return to arguably one of his best roles. Just give us a Dredd 2 with Karl Urban, if the series is not going to involve him.
Judge Dredd: Mega City One currently has no release date, though it has been announced. We could see Karl Urban announced in the Dredd 2 role in the future, or it could be someone entirely new. Whatever happens, Urban is clearly excited to see Dredd return in some capacity, as are we. We just hope that Urban is the one scowling from beneath the helmet when the trailer drops for the new series, or if he is brought back for a sequel film.
