Actor Justin Theroux has been cast in an unknown role in the much-anticipated Beetlejuice 2. According to our trusted and proven sources, the White House Plumbers star will appear in the upcoming Tim Burton sequel, which will also feature returning original stars Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton. A sequel to the 1988 hit supernatural black comedy has been in the works for literal decades now, so it is good to see it finally picking up some momentum.

So much momentum, in fact, that Beetlejuice 2 has been rumored to begin shooting as early as this month or possibly this summer. There is no indication of what character Justin Theroux might play in the film, but given his propensity for playing morally bankrupt Hollywood types in movies like Mulholland Drive and Joker, it is very likely he will be playing some kind of slick netherworld character.

The first Beetlejuice movie introduced Michael Keaton’s malevolent ghost as a “bio-exorcist,” which is to say, a ghost who specialized in scaring away living humans. However, it was also mentioned that he had once been an assistant to Juno (Sylvia Sidney), a bureaucratic manager of the afterlife. We could easily see Justin Theroux filling this role in Beetlejuice 2, albeit with a sleazier edge.

The plot of Beetlejuice 2 has not yet been revealed, though hopefully, it will not be in line with Tim Burton’s original vision of the sequel being a Hawaiian beach movie in which Michael Keaton saves the day by winning a surf contest. It would not be unthinkable for Beetlejuice 2 to involve some kind of show-business storyline (especially considering Hollywood’s love for dramatizing itself), in which we could also see Justin Theroux as a slimy manager or agent looking to capitalize on the discovery of the afterlife.

Regardless of who Justin Theroux turns out to be, it has been confirmed that both Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder (as Lydia Deetz) will be back for Beetlejuice 2, as will Catherine O’Hara and possibly Geena Davis. There has been no word of whether Alec Baldwin has been in talks for the sequel, but considering his ongoing legal issues, it seems somewhat unlikely.

Additionally, we have reported that Wednesday star Jenna Ortega may join the cast of Beetlejuice 2, which would be a pretty huge get for the long-in-development sequel. Ortega has skyrocketed to fame in the last year as one of the preeminent new deadpan goth icons with her starring role in the Netflix Addams Family spin-off series, the Scream series revival, and the Ti West slasher movie X. If we are going to finally get a sequel to one of the best spooky comedies ever made, Jenna Ortega is pretty slam-dunk casting.

However, we are pretty excited for Beetlejuice 2, regardless of who Justin Theroux is playing or if Tim Burton manages to lock down Jenna Ortega for a role. GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT will continue to update you with all the news of the ghost-with-the-most.
