Hollywood is no stranger to movies about the giant personalities of the tech industry. We’ve seen both Ashton Kutcher and Michael Fassbender playing Steve Jobs, we’ve seen Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, and now we will get to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as former Uber CEO and founder Travis Kalanick.

Showtime just released the first trailer for their upcoming anthology series Super Pumped. The first season, Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, will feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the founder of the rideshare company while depicting the internal and external strife that it went through in those early years. Check out the trailer below:

The short teaser doesn’t give us much to go by, but we definitely can see the angst and the hard-partying ways of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s take on the real-life entrepreneur. If you’re familiar with the history of the company, you’ll know Travis Kalanick was eventually removed from the company in a boardroom coup. Even if you’re not familiar with Uber’s history, you’re sure to be familiar with the company itself. As with many of these fast-success stories that come out of Silicon Valley, it’s not all smiles and smooth sailing. After all, it wouldn’t make for a very entertaining series if the company’s history wasn’t tumultuous. In short, it doesn’t look like things are going to end well for Levitt’s character.

We can already see the signs of major conflict in the trailer, with Kalanick’s mentor Bill Gurley (Kyle Chandler) talking about how Travis is a liability. The mentor-mentee relationship between these two characters looks to play a big part. And if you’re interested in learning more about Uber before this show hits our screens, the season is actually based on a best-selling book of the same name by Mike Isaac. Of course, no matter what level of knowledge you go into the series with, it’s sure to be a wild ride through the ugly side of Silicon Valley tech companies.

The Super Pumped series itself will be an anthology, so this story of Uber will be a self-contained season that is wrapped up in a set run of episodes. This means we likely won’t see Joseph Gordon-Levitt return in the role for Season 2. While we don’t know what Season 2 will be about yet, the series is set to explore stories that changed the business world and culture along with it. This leaves them with a lot of directions to go, so it will be interesting to see which company or business idea they follow next.

Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, comes from executive producers Brian Koppelman, David Levien, and Beth Schacter. They also serve as writers and showrunners. Koppelman and Levien are the co-creators of Billions, so they’re certainly no strangers to high-stakes boardroom drama. In addition to Levitt and Chandler, Super Pumped will co-star Uma Thurman as Arianna Huffington, Babak Tafti as Emil Michael, Moussa Hussein Kraish as Fawzi Kamel, and Elisabeth Shue as Travis’s mother Bonnie. The series is set to premiere on Showtime on February 27, 2022.
