At a moment of transformation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Disney prepares to usher in Phase Five of the highly successful franchise, actor Jonathan Majors is making a splash playing variants of the character Kang the Conqueror in several iterations of the franchise. Beginning with an appearance on the Disney+ series Loki, Majors has confirmed that the variant of Kang the Conqueror that will appear in next year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be a “warrior version” of the character, according to an interview the actor gave recently with Men’s Health. Bulking up muscle and strength to play the character in a high-profile addition to the Ant-Man series of films, Majors may be showing off his combat skills in the third installment of the popular movies.

Jonathan Majors was featured in Men’s Health to discuss Kang the Conqueror while currently promoting his upcoming war epic film, Devotion, which costars an ensemble cast of actors including Top Gun: Maverick breakout Glen Powell, musician Joe Jonas, and Daren Kagasoff. In a nearly half-naked spread poolside for Men’s Health magazine, Majors discusses how he built the body of a Marvel supervillain, committing several months of cardio and strength training to look the part of He Who Remains.

Comparing his character’s legacy to that of Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger and Josh Brolin’s Thanos, Majors confirms that while Kang the Conqueror is not related to either villain, he is happy Kang “adds diversity” and will hopefully be an imposing figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time.

After audiences see Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, alongside Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer, the actor will next be featured in the boxing ring opposite Killmonger himself, Michael B. Jordan. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will open in theaters in February 2023, but the two actors will costar in Creed III, the third installment in the Rocky series of films that centers on Adonis Creed and his quest for boxing glory, premiering in theaters in March 2023.

Majors’ role as Anderson Dame in Creed III does not have a lot of details available just yet, but it is presumed that he will be fighting Creed in the ring as Creed’s main competitor, similar to that of Viktor Drago and “Pretty” Ricky Conlan from the other Creed films.

After Devotion, Creed III, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania all debut in theaters within a few months of each other, Jonathan Majors will be hard at work filming other variant versions of Kang the Conqueror for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, the actor has been confirmed to appear as the character in the aptly named Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will be released in 2025, before Avengers: Secret Wars.

While there is no confirmation yet if Jonathan Majors will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, both Avengers movies are slated to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six, capping off close to two decades of Marvel films that have been kept alive due to fan engagement and audience appreciation in the franchise.
