When is the next time we’ll see Iron Man? This is a question most Marvel fans have been asking since Robert Downey Jr. left the role. Now, official announcements at WonderCon have given us our first peek at Tony Stark in the future. Jon Hamm will guest star in Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K on Hulu.

M.O.D.O.K is an adult animated series from Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt, who is not only the co creator but the voice of M.O.D.O.K himself, the major villain for the series. The acronym stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. The main character for the series will be grappling with his dreams of conquering the world while balancing a family life. The announcement didn’t say what episode we’ll be seeing Iron Man appear, but when we do, Jon Hamm will be voicing the part.

The WonderCon panel with this announcement happened during a Zoom session. You can watch the trailer for the show, and the complete panel, below.

The co creators took fan questions and announced the guest starring roles. Along with Jon Hamm, they announced that Whoopi Goldberg will be Poundcakes, Bill Hader will voice both Angar the Screamer and the Leader, and Nathan Fillion will voice Wonder Man. This last one is particularly interesting as Nathan Fillion has long been teased for the role of Wonder Man. We’ve expected to see him appear in live-action parts, so hopefully this role in the animated series is a first step.

While it isn’t common for actors to go from an animated series to a live-action one, it isn’t out of the question. Could we ever see Jon Hamm in the Iron Man suit? He has played roles with the cocky attitude required to play Tony Stark. He’s been playful as well in comedies like Bridesmaids. While it doesn’t seem like there are any plans for Jon Hamm to play Tony Stark in a live-action series, the idea is still a fun one. Perhaps he’ll be added to the list of actors considered for the role the next time the internet begins speculation on when we’ll see Iron Man in person again and who will bring the character to life.

Although, many have suggested that the character be retired for a while. They just aren’t ready to see anyone else in the role. Perhaps having a great actor like Jon Hamm voice the character in an animated series is a good transition for audiences after the events of Endgame.

As for M.O.D.O.K, the new series sounds supremely fun. The trailer looks hilarious. Getting talent like Jon Hamm, Nathan Fillion, Bill Hader, and Whoopi Goldberg on board for guest roles was a great move. While Oswalt is funny enough on his own to carry a project like this, having a lot of familiar talent is a big draw. Hopefully, we’ll get to experience what these actors can do in more than one episode of the new series.

We won’t have long to wait to find out. You can watch Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K on Hulu May 21, 2021.
