Johnny Depp Amber Heard

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have gotten pretty messy in the public eye. For the last few years, their names have been plastered all over the news for all negative things. With allegations of abuse, then libel trials, more allegations, lost roles, and defamation cases, it seemed they were destined to fade into nothingness. But the trial is over (despite all the expected appeals from Heard’s side). Now it is time to get back to work. Fans of Johnny Depp are getting the good news they’ve been waiting nearly half a decade for. The actor was spotted in Paris as production for a new movie is underway.

Before you get too excited, it isn’t a movie where he will don his hat and pistol with one shot. Just a few weeks following the defamation trial that saw Johnny Depp win a judgment against his ex-wife Amber Heard, the actor was seen clean-shaven and wearing a tan jacket with fringe over black jeans. His new film is by French filmmaker and actress, Maiwenn, called Jeanne du Barry. Depp is set to portray King Louis XV. The film follows the true story of commoner turned Countess Jeanne du Barry, a favorite of the King of France. They had an affair before he ordered her executed in 1793. As good of news as this is for fans, we’ll see if the movie will hit too close to home. We just watched a trial that painted both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard as abusive and toxic. A film right out of the gate about a rocky relationship that ends in execution may be bad form.

While many fans have been holding their breath for the next film to be a reprisal of his Jack Sparrow role, we wouldn’t hold our breath. After Disney parted ways with Johnny Depp following Amber Heard’s allegations of abuse beginning in 2016, there has been little movement on the franchise save for an announcement that Margot Robbie would be stepping in to fill his shoes. On June 27, a report surfaced that Depp was working on finalizing a deal to see him return to Pirates of the Caribbean for just over $300 million. Fans were crushed when a representative for the actor told NBC News, “This is false.” Fans will have to make do with him taking on a different role from the 1700s.

After the drama started half a decade ago and fans saw Amber Heard go through a myriad of emotions and apparent turmoil, and Johnny Depp lost both Pirates of the Caribbean and the role of Grindlewald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, fans are happy to see their favorite pirate moving on to new things. Now that Amber Heard is going through the same rocky career dip as Depp did by maybe, possibly losing her role in Aquaman, we will likely see the same cycle for her. Despite Jerry Bruckheimer working on two new Pirates films and confessing the future of Depp is uncertain in the franchise, it seems apparent that Jack Sparrow himself is ready to start a new phase of his career, leaving all of this behind him.
