Bad guys, audiences, and box office records are about to get blown away. As reported by Deadline, John Wick: Chapter 4 is projected to debut stateside with a franchise-best $60-70 million opening weekend. The longest entry in the franchise to date is out for box office blood, and audiences are expected to show up big for Keanu Reeves’ showdown with Bill Skarsgard.

The COVID-19 pandemic has complicated box office predictions, so the numbers for John Wick 4 are more questionable than normal. Still, the outlook is good. For comparison, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum opened at $56.8 million pre-pandemic.

John Wick 4 opens in wide release on March 24 during a spring season packed with blockbusters. Creed III, Scream VI, 65, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will crowd the March calendar leading up to John Wick 4. But the John Wick fanbase has remained dedicated since the franchise debuted in 2014, boosting the series to a $585 million total gross.

Tickets are already on sale for John Wick 4, which will feature its title character once again on the run from a never-ending stream of assassins. In his quest for freedom from The High Table, Wick will strike a deal to duel Marquis, the ghoulish assassin played by Skarsgard. The film is expected to see the return of Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick, along with franchise newcomers Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada.

But the action-packed assassin saga doesn’t stop with John Wick 4. A fifth movie has been greenlit, though Reeves and director Chad Stahelski plan to see how John Wick 4 performs before proceeding with the next outing. In the meantime, fans will be treated to the Peacock series The Continental and the spin-off film Ballerina.

A prequel to John Wick 4, The Continental follows Colin Woodell as Winston, the head of the Continental Hotel played by Ian McShane in the John Wick films, navigating the criminal underworld during his rise to power in 1970s New York. The series also stars Mel Gibson, Peter Greene, Nhung Kate, and Katie McGrath. Ballerina is expected to be a revenge tale led by Ana de Armas. Keanu Reeves and Norman Reedus are also expected to appear in the series.

After the release of John Wick 4, Keanu Reeves will reprise the role of the exorcist detective John Constantine in Constantine 2. The film will serve as a sequel to Reeves’ 2005 film based on the DC comics character. Reeves reportedly fought hard for the follow-up, and though the original film was a commercial success, it earned volatile reception from critics and fans.

Constantine 2 may be a gamble, but this is about as close to a sure bet as a movie studio can get. The track record for the franchise is impeccable, and as the scale of the story increases, so does its box office draw. If its trailer is any indication, Lionsgate and the team behind John Wick 4 look to up the ante again in the upcoming sequel, and a peek into the box office crystal ball predicts the film will make a killing.
