As we continue inching closer to The Batman hitting the big screen, more and more details are coming out about the movie and what to expect from the brand new cast around the Caped Crusader. It’s going to be a star-studded affair with all-new takes on popular characters from the comic books. One of those new faces will be John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, the boss of Gotham’s underworld criminal enterprise. There have been a number of promotional pieces and trailers released around the movie, though none have included Turturro. Until now. We are finally getting our first glimpse at Carmine Falcone in this new movie. And he doesn’t seem particularly impressed with the Batman.

The new spot was part of a quick teaser promotional clip from Warner Bros. Much of it is images and scenes we’ve already seen in previous looks at the flick. But there is one notable inclusion here and it’s John Turturro walking with Robert Pattinson’s Batman. The former doesn’t appear all that phased with coming face-to-face with Dark Knight and even says as much. Check out the first look at John Turturro as Carmine Falcone in The Batman:

“You think you’re gonna scare me with that mask and that cape?” It’s about all you need to hear from John Turturro as Carmine Falcone to understand how Batman might be viewed among the criminal rank and file to start this movie. They two are walking down a hallway with Turturro bringing a slightly slicker version of the character to the big screen than some other previous iterations we’ve seen. And this kind of nonchalance around Batman does make sense in the context of this new movie. We know the story is set to take place during the early advent of Bruce Wayne coming on the scene as Batman, his presence in the city relatively new. There’s a good chance folks like Falcone have little time for the masquerading.

Of course, this is likely to shift over the course of The Batman with the Caped Crusader growing more “comfortable” in the role as time goes on. And there’s likely to be some in-fighting among the criminal crowd as well. Because while John Turturro as Carmine Falcone is in charge of things to start, that might not be the case come to the end of the film. Part of this movie will also detail Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot/ Penguin and his own rise to crime boss. There’s a good chance the two come at odds during that struggle as well.

How things ultimately play out in this movie remains to be seen. There’s some chance this is a one-and-done for John Turturro in the role considering what we know about future projects. One of those is going to be a spin-off series around Farrell’s Penguin. Many of these questions will (finally) be answered when The Batman hits the big screen on March 4th of this year. As for John Turturro, well he has projects like Pinocchio, Severance, and Can’t Go Home in the works.
