Character actors are the bread and butter of the film and television industries, especially when their presence onscreen steals a scene or two. JK Simmons is one of those performers that worked his way through many background television roles on popular series, eventually breaking away to become an A-list actor. With parts in JunoWhiplash, and Spider-Man, Simmons has made a name for himself in blockbuster movies that cater to his unique voice and talents. Now the trailer for Simmons’ newest film has been released, and audiences get to hear his voice in a new way.

In the trailer for the film Glorious, JK Simmons voices a demonic god living in a rest-stop bathroom. True Blood alum Ryan Kwanten stars in the new horror film as a man who is hungover from the night before and needs to relieve himself in a public restroom. Unfortunately for Kwanten’s character of Wes, he is trapped in the bathroom and comes face to face with a glory hole that has an agenda all its own. Simmons provides the voice of the god living through the glory hole, and the two principal characters must battle it out in order to survive. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the film ranked with a 94% on its Tomatometer based on 16 critic reviews ahead of its debut.

According to Entertainment WeeklyGlorious is a Shudder original movie directed by Rebekah McKendry. The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Fantasia International Film Festival and will be released on Shudder on August 18th. JK Simmons plays the voice of Ghatanothoa, a deity hellbent on getting what he wants by asking for a favor from Wes. At this time, it’s not clear what that favor is, but it adds to the suspense and hilarity that this horror comedy has in store for audiences. This vehicle looks to be a perfect fit with Shudder’s catalog of series and movies, as the streaming subscription service is mainly known for horror and supernatural titles.

As Glorious is set to be released to a broader audience, JK Simmons is adding another eclectic film to his growing resume. Simmons began on the Broadway stage in a revival of Guys and Dolls before moving on to playing Captain Hook in the stage production of Peter Pan in the early 1990s. After a series regular role on Law & Order, the actor surprised audiences with his now iconic portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in the original Spider-Man trilogy, opposite Tobey Maguire. He transitioned back into television as a main character on the hit drama The Closer before jumping back into film roles in Juno and eventually Whiplash. Simmons earned the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Whiplash, playing the verbally abusive bandleader to Miles Teller’s drum soloist. He continued bouncing back and forth between roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe until he landed the part of William Frawley in Aaron Sorkin’s biopic Being the Ricardos. It’s with Being the Ricardos that JK Simmons earned another nomination for the Academy Award.
