Jeremy Renner is arguably one of the best Avengers and was given his own show because of that. Though it was presumed to be for one season, things are hinting at more episodes.

Jeremy Renner has long played the archer superhero Hawkeye in The Avengers and other films in the MCU. He finally got his chance to shine solo in the recent Hawkeye series on Disney+. Initially, it was assumed that this would be a limited series and that Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop would just be seen elsewhere in the MCU. However, Disney recently updated the For Your Consideration section on their Disney Studios Awards website, indicating that there might be more Hawkeye in the works.

At first, Disney had billed Hawkeye as a limited series, but the series being part of the For Your Consideration in the Outstanding Comedy Series section would indicate otherwise. To be eligible for awards outside of the Limited Series category, Hawkeye would have to be billed as an ongoing series instead. This move by Disney is a curious one and could mean that they want to give Jeremy Renner and Hailee some more screen time in their own series. Disney is making a full push for Hawkeye to get some awards recognition, whether they’re only giving it one season or not. In addition to the Outstanding Comedy Series category, they’ve also submitted Renner and Steinfeld for Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Vincent D’Onofrio, Fra Free, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, Vera Farmiga, and Florence Pugh have all been submitted for the Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress categories.

Though the end of the Hawkeye series didn’t really leave too many loose ends to tie up, there are always more stories to tell in the Marvel universe. The season ended with Clint Barton and Kate Bishop making it home in time for Christmas, Bishop’s mother arrested for working with the villainous Wilson Fisk, and Fisk himself seemingly shot point-blank by Echo. It also saw Florence Pugh’s Yelena get some closure on the death of Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. While we know for a fact that Echo’s story will continue in her own upcoming Disney+ series, it’s unclear where they’ll want to take Hawkeye and his protege next. However, if Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld are up for more seasons, it seems like it would be a missed opportunity on Disney’s part to not give fans more of what they want.

Undoubtedly, it’s not the last we’ll see of Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld in the MCU. Renner is one of the only remaining OG Avengers left, with Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow all out of commission. It seems like they’ll be easing his character into a more backseat role, as some of the newer and younger characters take over the mantle from their predecessors. The upcoming Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk will also be introducing us to two new heroes with similar powers to Captain Marvel and Hulk, respectively. Even Natalie Portman is getting the powers of Thor in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. It’ll be interesting to see how the MCU decides to utilize all these new and upcoming heroes.
