Supernatural was a CW series that ran for a total of 15 seasons and starred Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. It may seem like fans have gotten enough of the Winchester brothers after all that time, but the truth is that Supernatural fans are still as dedicated as ever. The show ended back in 2020, but just when fans thought the series would be completely buried and gone forever, it suddenly is back in the picture. The Boys, a series which revolves around a group of vigilantes trying to take down corrupt superheroes, has just released the trailer for its third season, where Jensen Ackles will be debuting as Soldier Boy. A post uploaded on The Boys‘ official Twitter after the release of the trailer has left Supernatural fans overly excited.

You can see the tweet pointing out the Supernatural reference for Jensen Ackles’ fans below.

Fans swiftly responded to the original Tweet, commenting about the reference and even showing side-by-side comparisons from the post and stills from the Supernatural series. In Supernatural, there is a famous scene where Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are looking into the trunk of a car. This was replayed many times over the years as the characters continued getting weapons and supplies from the trunk of their Impala. The camera is panned up towards their faces from inside the trunk right before they slam the trunk door closed, stating, “We got work to do.” The moment was often used in the credits at the beginning of new episodes of the show.

Many Supernatural fans immediately recognized the reference, and Twitter has been blowing up ever since. See the fans react in the posts below:

Supernatural left a major impact on audiences, creating a very devoted fandom. For fans of the show, they have a lot in store for the upcoming third season of The Boys. According to CBR, one of the Supernatural stars, Jensen Ackles, will be joining the third season, playing the character of Soldier Boy. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why the teaser made a reference to Supernatural. Going further back, there’s also a connection between the creator of The Boys, who was also the creator of Supernatural. Eric Kripke, the creative mind behind both series, constantly supports Jensen Ackles, and in an interview, discussed how the two are very close. “…Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother.”

It will be interesting to see Jensen Ackles joining The Boys‘ world, since he has officially ended his time as Dean Winchester in the Supernatural universe. Since the creator of Supernatural is also the creator of The Boys, fans might get a few more little references in the upcoming season. It was definitely a big surprise and a huge throwback for the Supernatural fans who last saw Ackles and Padalecki on the television screen back in 2020. Now, we get to see Ackles take on an entirely different role in The Boys. The third season is set to premiere this summer on June 3rd on Amazon Prime.
