It had to happen eventually: The Walking Dead had a big ol’ blooper. Well, in all fairness, the AMC network’s current flagship series has had enough bloopers and uh-ohs to justify multiple supercuts, but that is just what you get when a show has been on the air for 11 seasons. In this particular case, The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan was in a scene with child actor Kien Michael Spiller who is holding him at gunpoint (it’s an intense show, alright). In the scene, Morgan’s character Negan crouches down to talk the child out of shooting him to avenge the death of his father Glenn (Steven Yeun), and eagle-eyed viewers noticed that you could see a cellphone popping out of Morgan’s pocket. For context, if you’re unfamiliar with the show, The Walking Dead takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies are rampant, humanity’s best inclinations have become a liability, and people like the brutal and amoral Negan hold the power of life and death. In short, not a lot of cellphones. Jeffrey Dean Morgan reacted to his unforgivable blunder in the best possible way:

Honestly, there really is not a better way to respond other than with an “oops.” After all, it is not like blunders like Jeffrey Dean Morgan having his phone on him while filming don’t happen all the time. There was the infamous coffee-cup incident on Game of Thrones, which was only mildly less controversial than the entirety of the final season. And there was the time on The Mandalorian in which Din Djarin, Cara Dune, and Greef Karga are in a fierce blaster battle and some guy in jeans is just kind of in the background. Both of these incidents were later digitally scrubbed from the episodes, so it is basically as though they never happened, but it is fun to occasionally catch something like that. As a beloved fan-favorite character on several different shows, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is probably allowed a certain number of slip-ups in any production he’s involved in. It is also not like Zack Snyder had to answer for The Comedian’s apartment had an N64 in Watchmen or anything.

But that is the kind of easygoing attitude Jeffrey Dean Morgan brings to the table that inevitably makes him a notable part of any show he is on. Morgan was a recurring character on the incredibly long-running CW fantasy series Supernatural, in which he played the Winchester brothers Sam and Dean’s father, John. That show recently announced a spin-off prequel, in which both John and Mary Winchester appear as young versions of themselves, prior to marrying; it is fittingly titled The Winchesters. It is unlikely Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be showing up on that particular show, and the CW recently announced the casting of the younger versions of the characters, but you never know with that wacky franchise. And besides, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to star in his very own Walking Dead spin-off, in which he portrays the many adventures of the noted murderer Negan. It’ll be fun to watch for the bloopers on that one!
