Jason Statham Redemption

Jason Statham has made the fast-paced action movie his bread and butter film, releasing almost countless of these productions over the years. It’s where he started and there doesn’t appear any indication he’ll be slowing down anytime soon. And the actor is about to team back up with the director who helped springboard his career. That’s right, he and Guy Ritchie are hooking up for another film and it’s set to release next month on April 23rd. Get ready for Wrath of Man which looks like some more Statham and Ritchie goodness.

Wrath of Man will feature Jason Statham in the lead role as the character “H” and is based on the French film Cash Truck. In that film, an armored truck driver is at the center of a major heist with a number of different double-crosses and intrigue along the way. Knowing how Guy Ritchie operates and the kinds of roles Statham has taken throughout his now decades-long career, this thing is sure to be high-octane and frenetic. The style should play well for another heist film, something both director and star have plenty of experience making.

Joining Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham in Wrath of Man is Josh Hartnett, Scott Eastwood, Holt McCallany, Post Malone among others. The April 23rd release date was rescheduled from January 15, 2021, because of some pandemic-related delays. But even with only a little over a month from hitting the screen, we still don’t have a trailer for the film. This could be to build some hype around the team up from the stars, or it could be because the delay was originally planned to be a longer one.

Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham getting back together for a film is exciting considering the two basically came on the scene together in the latter’s first two films. Those were 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and 2000s Snatch. Statham wasn’t the lead in either, but he made his mark in both. The two films were surprise hits, both scoring well with critics at 75% and 74% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. They helped solidify both as major Hollywood talents. About eight years later, in 2008 they teamed back up for Revolver which Statham starred in. This one was a smaller film but bombed critically and at the box office. When we think about these two working together, it’s definitely around the first two films.

Wrath of Man hitting theaters next month on April 23rd is sure to make something of a smash. Both Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham are at much different points of their career now than when things first started all those years ago. Ritchie is coming off directing the live-action Disney remake of Aladdin and Statham obviously just did Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Combined, those two films did almost $1.8 billion at the box office. That shows both are at the top of the Hollywood mountain these days meaning this next one could also do some big numbers.  April 23rd will be the day we get these two reunited. It should be well worth the wait.
