Jason Momoa has made a name for himself, starring in shows and movies on the biggest services from Apple TV, HBO, and now Netflix. The trailer for Sweet Girl, the actor’s latest upcoming film, blends heartstring-pulling drama with adrenaline-pumping action.

The film follows Jason Momoa’s character, Cooper, who loses his wife because the pharmaceutical company behind the drug she needed took it off the market. With him and his daughter Rachel, played by Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), grieving, things escalate. From the father threatening the head of the company to men getting sent after them, the family goes on a revenge-driven thrill ride to get justice.

Co-starring with Isabela Merced and Jason Momoa are Adria Arjona (True Detective), Amy Brenneman (Judging Amy), and Michael Raymond-James (True Blood). Check out the new trailer for Sweet Girl:

Directing this revenge story with Jason Momoa will be Brian Andrew Mendoza, making this his first feature-length. Mendoza has worked on notable projects before as mostly a producer. One of those was with the Game of Thrones star signing up for Frontier; a TV show centered on an outlaw trying to get into the Hudson’s Bay Company’s monopoly on the fur trade in Canada.

Three writers penned the scripts for this upcoming Jason Momoa Netflix movie. That was a team of Phillip Eisner (Event Horizon), Gregg Hurwitz (The Book of Henry), and Will Staples (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3).

Going beyond the shining star, Jason Momoa will act as a producer with Mendoza. Brad Peyton, Jeffery Fierson, Jeff Valeri, and Bruce Done will also act as producers. On as executive producers will be Mark Karmine and Martin Kistler.

Jason Momoa

Making his acting start with Baywatch, Jason Momoa has had a sharp change in his career in the last decade. In 2011 he had a short but impactful presence in Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo. Since then, he has skyrocketed, appearing on the big and small screen. He has done the Apple TV+ series See with Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), and Christian Camargo (The Hurt Locker).

For blockbusters, Jason Momoa was in Justice League, his DC standalone movie Aquaman, and the recent Snyder Cut. Later this year, he will appear in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune with Timothée Chalamet (Lady Bird), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), and other A-listers in the highly anticipated film.

Jason Momoa’s co-star, Isabela Merced, has had quite the career too. She got her started in the NBC sitcom Growing Up Fisher with J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), but like many shows on the network, it did not survive long. The trend of TV continued until big-budget films started rolling toward her way with Transformers: The Last Knight and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She is currently filming the drama Father of the Bride with Arjona and will star in the comedy Rosaline with Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart).

Audiences can check out Sweet Girl on Netflix on August 20.
