Jason Momoa is closing in on a secret role for Marvel Studios, presumably, as part of one of their many announced but still frustratingly vague projects. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Aquaman actor is prepared to leap from Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC Universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is pretty good timing considering the upheaval at the DCU. While Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry was perhaps the most shockingly successful part of DC’s attempts to compete with the MCU, his future at the company is very much up in the air.

As we previously reported, Jason Momoa has been circling a role at Marvel for quite some time. Our speculation (which we stand by) is that the Slumberland actor will be portraying Ben Grim aka the Thing in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has not yet announced any casting for the movie, but given that the First Family is a pretty big deal, he is going to need pretty big actors.

As such, we think Jason Momoa would be ideal as the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the Thing, who has previously been portrayed by Michael Chiklis and Jamie Bell in 20th Century Fox’s attempts to adapt the Fantastic Four. Momoa already has a famously large physique and the ability to pull off a sardonic, grumpy attitude, which covers two of the bases for Ben Grimm. Factor in that casting Jason Momoa as Marvel’s Thing would add the pathos of a very handsome man being transformed into a rock monster, and he seems pretty ideal.

Ben Grimm aka The Thing

Before Jason Momoa jumps over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has at least one more movie left for the DC Universe, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The first Aquaman movie, directed by James Wan, was a surprise success at the box office, grossing over $1.1 billion dollars and becoming the highest-performing movie based on a DC Comics character. Even with the massive amount of changes that have happened at Warner Bros. Discovery of late, the newly formed DC Studios seems to have little choice but to stick with him for a little while.

However, the recent appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran to head DC Studios has abruptly changed pretty much every expectation for the DC Universe. Though it seemed like the plan was first to center the future of DC movies around Ezra Miller’s Flash and then Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, things have not panned out that way. It seems that the only existing actor to have a secure place in the new DCU is James Gunn’s previous collaborator Margot Robbie, which makes it very possible that Jason Momoa is essentially being pushed to the competition, Marvel.

Before Jason Momoa seals any deals with Marvel Studios, he will be appearing as a villain in Universal Pictures’ Fast X, so he is really getting around to all the major studios. We shall just have to wait and see if he and Kevin Feige can make the numbers work.
