After 2 decades and almost ten films, there is no doubt that The Fast & the Furious franchise has been through a lot. Starting out as a film akin to Point Break, the franchise has expanded significantly since then (via Slash Film). Incredible star power including Charlize Theron, John Cena, and Idris Elba have been in the main franchise as well as spin-off films. Now The Fast & the Furious is reportedly about to add one more star to the list. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is in talks to join the cast of Fast and Furious 10

The next installment of the franchise is still in early stages of development. It has not been confirmed in what capacity that Momoa will be featured. But with the types of roles actors of his caliber have filled in previous films, fans can speculate what they may be in for. Fast 9 featured Cena in a lead role, but not as a part of the team. Cena played Jakob, Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) estranged brother and the villain of the film. Theron has also appeared in a similarly morally gray part. It stands to reason that Momoa could be the Fast and Furious franchise’s next big villain.

Justin Lin will be returning to direct the film and previous cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, and Tyrese Gibson are also expected to return. With such a stacked cast, Jason Momoa isn’t really needed for his success at the box office. But there may be a reason to bring in such a well established actor. Dwayne Johnson’s departure has left a big hole in the film series. The former wrestler joined the films during Fast Five ten years ago. But in recent years, Johnson and Diesel have been known to have their issues. The last film in the franchise Johnson appeared in was the spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, but does not appear as though he will be returning to the main franchise. Even after Diesel attempted to woo his former co-star back into the fold via social media, Johnson slammed him for what he called Diesel’s “manipulative” post.

The feud between the two stars has been vague, but seems to stem from miscommunication and what Diesel has called “tough love” on set. With Jason Momoa entering the fold, this may be the best case scenario. Momoa became notable when he starred as Khal Drogo in the HBO megahit, Game of Thrones. But the actor has come into his own in recent years and appeared in many big blockbuster films. He made waves when he was cast as Arthur Curry, the Aquaman of the DCEU.

Jason Momoa has finished production on Aquaman 2 which is expected to be released later this year. Momoa’s true accomplishment was the release of sci-fi epic, Dune. The film had been projected for release a year and a half ago but was delayed due to the pandemic (via The Verge). Dune was released in 2021 and became an instant box office success. Momoa portrayed an iconic character from the books, Duncan Idaho. A sometimes friend of Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and master of arms. With Dune Part Two planned for the future, it doesn’t seem as though life will be slowing down for Momoa any time soon.
