Just when Jared Leto thought the overwhelming hate for his superhero flick, Morbius, was over, award season came around. While in past years, he’s nabbed both an Academy and Golden Globe Award, this year he’s again tumbled to the bottom of the totem pole and is up for a Golden Raspberry Award, aka Razzie, for Worst Actor in the Sony Pictures feature. Finding himself here for the second year in a row following his wild performance in House of Gucci, he’s at least joined by many other names involved in Morbius, with the film raking in a whopping five Razzie nominations.

Along with Jared Leto’s Worst Actor nom, Morbius has also managed to find itself in the running for Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actress (Adria Arjona), Worst Director (Daniel Espinosa), and Worst Screenplay (Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless). When you consider all the jeers and snide comments that have been thrown at the vampire-centered feature, the only surprise here is that it didn’t receive even more Razzy nominations, although it’s a hard year to hate on Matt Smith. Currently, Morbius sits on Rotten Tomatoes with an abysmal 16 percent critics rating.

Lucky for Jared Leto and the rest of the cast and crew of Morbius, they’re in some good/bad company. Blonde seems to be the top crowd dis-pleaser this year, raking in a whopping eight Razzies, with Machine Gun Kelly’s stoner rom-com Good Mourning behind it with seven, and Disney’s unnecessary and truly traumatizing live-action Pinocchio in third place with six. Our personal favorite category is Worst Screen Couple for which those behind the ceremony nominated “Tom Hanks and His Latex-Laden Face (and Ludicrous Accent)” in Elvis, and “Both Real Life Characters in the Fallacious White House Bedroom Scene” in Blonde.

Somehow managing to deliver a worldwide box office total of $167.5 million to the bank, Morbius was undoubtedly one of 2022’s biggest flops. With a poorly penned script filled with quotable one-liners (and not in a good way), Jared Leto’s performance of the blood-sucking titular scientist was a huge miss with fans who were eager to see what new story would be told in Morbius. While it finished first at the box office during its opening weekend, the film would quickly fall through the cracks, losing its spot to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 during its second week.

With Jared Leto being nominated as Worst Actor for his appearance in Morbius, it will mark the second year in a row that the performer has been up for a Razzy. Last year, his turn in House of Gucci earned him the award for Worst Supporting Actor, and a nomination for Worst Screen Combo which was announced as “Jared Leto & Either His 17-Pound Latex Face, His Geeky Clothes, or His Ridiculous Accent.” This one definitely hurt, as both Leto and his fellow co-stars were expecting a real run at the Oscars, with no performances so much as bagging a nomination.

You can see how Jared Leto, Morbius, and the rest of the worst of the worst stack up at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards. The 43rd Annual Razzie Awards will be held on March 11, 2023, on the RazzieChannel.
