With Zack Snyder’s cut of the Justice League now confirmed to be coming out next month, Snyder has unveiled a new – albeit, blurry – look at what Jared Leto will look like as the Joker.

Zack Snyder has previously said that Jared Leto’s Joker would be receiving a new look, and even from this photo, the changes seem significant. Since the photo is black-and-white, it’s hard to tell exactly how different Jared Leto will look in this film, but he certainly seems to be toned down from the tattooed gangster of Suicide Squad.

From the image, it looks as though Jared Leto will still have the white face paint, but it does look as though there are fewer tattoos. In addition to shoulder-length hair, we can also see what looks to be a hand-drawn smile that stretches out across his cheeks. Also in the image is a leather-clad hand with a Joker card. Again, it’s hard to tell all the major differences from this early image, but it looks like maybe this makeover might be inspired by the joker on this playing card.

Zack Snyder had said that he originally wanted Jared Leto as Joker in the original Justice League, but due to the troubled production, Leto didn’t quite make the final cut. But after reshoots and new footage, it looks as though Jared Leto will come back as Joker for this new cut of the Justice League. This will be Leto’s first appearance as the Joker since 2016’s Suicide Squad, and as of right now, he doesn’t have any further appearances as the clown on his schedule.

However, Jared Leto might be too busy to play the villain in upcoming films. Already this year, Leto has appeared in The Little Things, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination yesterday. In addition to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Leto also is scheduled to appear in Ridley Scott’s Gucci, which is currently in pre-production. Leto will star alongside Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Adam Driver, and Jack Huston.

In addition to his work in 2021, Jared Leto has even more exciting work coming up in the future. Leto’s introduction into Marvel films, Morbius, has been pushed until January 21, 2022. But Leto also is reteaming with his Requiem for a Dream director, Darren Aronofsky, for Adrift, a new horror film being produced through Blumhouse Productions. Finally, Jared Leto is also rumored to be starring in the third Tron film, although Disney has yet to confirm if and when this project is happening.

But it’s unclear if this is the last time we will see Jared Leto play the Joker. There are rumors that a new version of the character could appear in a sequel to The Batman, and it’s still unclear if there will be some sort of sequel to Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, whether with or without Phoenix. Yet at least we will get one more appearance of Leto’s Joker when Zack Snyder’s Justice League hits HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
