Jared Leto will be returning as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The surprise return has had fans speculating what they can expect from this reappearance by the Clown Prince of Crime. Well, it turns out that Zack Snyder himself has revealed what you can expect when the Joker shows up in the new version of Justice League.
Snyder was interviewed by Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer and the discussion eventually came around to Jared Leto and his involvement in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the Joker. It is here that Snyder began to pull back the current on his take on the iconic comic book villain. “Some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between last we saw Joker and this appearance,” says Snyder. “He’s a road-weary Joker, I guess that’s a way of saying it.”
What exactly could this mean for the Jared Leto iteration of Joker? Well, we are almost certain that we are going to see an apocalyptic riff on the Harlequin of Hate. He was actually teased in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and from what we have heard about this appearance, it sounds like Zack Snyder will be fulfilling that particular promise.
Yes, the scuttlebutt is that Jared Leto will appear as the Joker in the Knightmare timeline. This is a post-apocalyptic world where there are very different versions of the recognizable DC superheroes. It stands to reason that there would still be some supervillains around in this alternate universe as well. Seeing exactly how the Joker will appear in this ravaged world is cause for excitement.
Especially if we see some major aesthetic changes to Jared Leto’s Joker. Fans were extremely divided on the Joker’s physical look in Suicide Squad, so this would be an opportunity to present audiences with a totally different riff on his character. Since we know that more of the Knightmare scenes are being shot, it’s pretty sure that the Joker will be showing up there with a totally new visage. could he even have gotten rid of his infamous tattoos?
Considering it is very unlikely that Jared Leto was originally set to appear in Justice League back in its original version, it is going to be very interesting to see how he fits into the story of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. And will his new “road-weary” look imply that maybe he is not as obsessed with killing Batman as he used to be? Is it even possible that this version of the Joker could be a temporary ally to Batman against the even greater threat of Darkseid?
All these questions will be answered when we finally get to see Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max next year. We are genuinely intrigued to see what this new version of Jared Leto’s Joker will look like. Zack Snyder has offered us the first tantalizing tease of what to expect. Now, we look forward to the first official image of this new take on the greatest comic book villain of all time.
