There are so many films that can be counted among the best that Jack Black has offered in his career. Kung Fu Panda, Nacho Libre, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. The list goes on and on. However, the argument on which of his films is at the top can be decided by one factor: Jack Black himself. The actor was recently interviewed by ET Online, where he spoke candidly about his relationship with Taylor Hawkins, the drummer of the Foo Fighters, who sadly passed away recently. Black goes from speaking about Hawkins to what the best film is that he has appeared in. That designation goes to School of Rock. According to the actor, “My best memories are just that group of kids, and how funny and great they were. It’s definitely the highlight of my career, I can say that. Honestly.” You can see the quick interview below:

Jack Black calling School of Rock his best film makes total sense considering that he is a musician himself. The man has been in a musical duo with his comedic partner, Kyle Gass, since 1994. The band would go on to release their first album in 2001 and had their very own HBO show. From there, the band would go on to create a relationship with Foo Fighters, as the band featured Dave Grohl as the drummer on that debut album. Considering that Black was able to teach young children about rock, metal, and punk, it stands to reason that he would look back fondly on that experience. The children in the film sometimes outshine Black, which is why he has spoken about how hilarious they all were together.

School of Rock still holds up to this day and contains a high “certified fresh” rating of 92% with an audience rating of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Jack Black plays the role of Dewey Finn, a bit of a low life who finds his calling in teaching music to young prep school children. Though Finn is desperate in his aims to become a rock star, he finds more value in teaching those youngsters all about rock music. Dewey and the children create a rock band and enter a “Battle of the Bands” contest. On the eve of the film’s 20th anniversary, Black was speaking about his time with the kids in that film. He is certainly right; they are all hilarious in the film. Miranda Cosgrove might have been given iCarly due to her hilarious nature in the film while portraying Summer.

While Jack Black has had an amazing career, School of Rock is one of those films that should be at the top of a lot of lists that include some of his best work. Black is certainly one of the more flamboyant actors in the world, and he is given full pardon to be that much zanier while around the children that he is teaching about rock music. The film contains a lot of humor but also has a lot of heart. While a sequel had been discussed back in 2008, but sadly never materialized past initial discussions. There was also a 10-year reunion that took place in 2013, which featured the creators, Black, and most of the children. Maybe there will be an even bigger celebration next year for the 20th anniversary.
