Idris Elba Is Returning To His Best Role For Netflix
According to Vanity Fair, Idris Elba is more than thrilled to be able to step back in the shoes of his most iconic character
Idris Elba has tackled various roles and characters during his career thus far, and as luck has it, the talented actor will be returning to one of his best roles. Luther was a series that aired a total of five seasons and was overall a BBC psychological crime thriller that starred Idris Elba as the main character. The final season of the show aired back in 2019 and overall, received numerous accolades and awards for the show and Elba’s outstanding performance. Due to the success of the series, Netflix is bringing back Luther for a film based around the character and the series.
According to Vanity Fair, Idris Elba is more than thrilled to be able to step back in the shoes of his most iconic television character, DCI John Luther. Elba added a few comments on the film, discussing his thoughts and opinions of the production. “ For those that like the exploration of the dark side of human beings, it’s well done, it’s well written,” Elba stated. The movie is being filmed in parts of London, according to The Daily Mail. One of the film’s scenes was recently shot in London’s famous Piccadilly Circus. It appears the filming of the Netflix movie is in full swing.
The film is set to be fully based on the hit series. Luther received various awards throughout its air time, so it seems only natural that there would be a follow-up movie to continue Luther’s story. The series currently has a very high rating of 8.5 on IMDb, and an audience score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series was known for its incredible performances from its cast members. Idris Elba played the title role of John Luther, while Ruth Wilson, Warren Brown, and Indira Varma starred alongside him. Idris Elba has received countless awards for his performance as Luther alone, winning awards such as a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor’s Guild Award. Elba was also nominated for the honorable Emmy Award on more than one occasion.
Idris Elba feels very strongly about having Luther turn into a film, and has always been on board with the idea. In an interview with the Digital Spy, Elba discussed how having Luther become a film is very positive and gives a chance to explore the character and the world a lot more. “With a film, the sky is the limit. Obviously, you can be a little bit more bold in the storyline…” Elba has always done an incredible performance in the original BBC series, so the actor will no doubt bring another amazing performance in the Netflix film.
Idris Elba has been quite busy over the past couple of years, starring in films such as The Suicide Squad for DC and the Guardians of the Galaxy movies at Marvel. Plus, he is currently working on films such as Luther and Beast. We’ll soon be hearing him voice the character of Knucles in Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Of course, bringing back his iconic role of Luther will be another great step in his career. The movie is currently still in the production stages, so details of the film are slowly trickling out.
