A brand-new behind-the-scenes featurette has been released for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sequel. This is one of the most anticipated sequels, as fans have been clamoring for more of Sonic and the other characters involved. Idris Elba was introduced as none other than Sonic’s biggest threat, Knuckles. Now in this new featurette, fans will get to hear about the movie and the process from some of the cast. Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, and Idris Elba speak on what it’s like to be in the new sequel, with one of the best jokes coming at the expense of Knuckles. Sonic dodges the many punches Knuckles throws while saying, “For someone named Knuckles, you’re really bad at punching.” You can see the video below:

Adding Idris Elba might be one of the best moves in the history of video game adaptations. He is certainly one of the best actors currently and is beloved by many around the world. Elba has long been tied to potentially taking on the role of James Bond, though that has yet to happen. He is also coming off a successful run portraying Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Simply put, the man can do just about anything in the acting game. Now he gets to portray one of Sonic’s most brutal adversaries, Knuckles, albeit with having to land a punch first. The above video shows the man talking about his upcoming character and his excitement to show the world what Knuckles is capable of. The character went over so well that it was also announced that Elba would be returning for a Knuckles spin-off series as well.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 brings back Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden as Tom. Newcomers for the film are Idris Elba as Knuckles and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails. Though she appeared as Tails in a post-credits scene, this will be the first time that Tails is shown as the sidekick we all know him to be. The great thing is that Colleen O’Shaughnessey has been voicing the character of Tails since 2010. It’s great to see the studio bring on a familiar voice from the video game franchise. Video game adaptations are starting to become more prevalent and successful in the film industry, and Sonic the Hedgehog is proof that they can be done well. The original film holds a 93% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and pulled in a respectable $319 million worldwide in box office numbers.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to spin into theaters on April 8th. There is plenty to be excited about, which has been released in the trailers released so far. Dr. Robotnik is back and has apparently found the green emerald. Something that he plans to use to power his machines and himself up. Also, Knuckles (Idris Elba) will go toe to toe with Sonic. While there are no mentions about the other emeralds, this could be a time in which Super Sonic is established or talked about. For those who played the video games, you know that acquiring all the emeralds is needed to unlock Sonic’s true power, but the movie could show us that power sooner rather than later. We can’t wait to see this sequel.
