Just when you thought the forest was safe comes the woods’ most terrifying creature – Bambi? The Disinsider says that a Bambi horror movie is in development by ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions. This team has already turned other Disney properties into horror movies and is now looking to give the scary movie treatment to the beloved deer and his friends.

The movie will be titled Bambi: The Reckoning and is not an officially sanctioned Disney movie. The production team has already made Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and is currently producing another Disney-based horror film, Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a live-action horror that speculates what would happen if Christopher Robin abandoned his beloved friends from the 100 Acre Woods.

No plot details have been released about Bambi: The Reckoning other than that it will be a horror movie and appears to also be live-action. The most obvious plotline based on the title would be that Bambi is out for revenge after the famously tragic murder of his mother by hunters. Production is set to begin in January 2023.

The movie will be directed by Scott Jeffrey, who says he was inspired by the creature design in the Netflix movie The Ritual. The Netflix monster was developed by Keith Thompson, who also was the concept designer for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Crimson Peak, and Pacific Rim. The elegant monster calls to mind the primal and ancient forces of an Earth before humankind, and since it is the inspiration for a Bambi horror movie, fans might check out The Ritual for a preview.

This is not the first time Bambi has been spoofed by movies and television. Dwayne Johnson once played the charming animal in a Saturday Night Live sketch, this one the ad for an action film in which he and his friends violently go after the hunters responsible for his mother’s death. In 1969, Bambi also met Gozilla in a short animated horror movie that did not end well for the adorable critter.

Director Scott Jeffrey has a long history of producing or directing campy horror movies, so a Bambi horror movie is in line with his specialties. Among his credit are titles such as HellKat and Cannibal Troll. He has also written numerous horror scripts and stories and has 119 production credits to his name.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield is the producer of the Bambi horror movie. He is also the director of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which is projected for a February 2023 release. He and Scott Jeffrey are working together on both movies as well as several other titles.

There is no word yet on the distribution of the Bambi horror movie or Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey but as the latter has gained a lot of notoriety on the internet, Frakes-Waterfield says distributors are showing interest. He claims that while Netflix would be nice, he’d be happy to see it anywhere, but is glad he is receiving offers. Hopefully, the Disney mayhem finds a home, and audiences can revel in the glorious chaos of a Bambi horror movie.
