Our sources told us that Marvel was looking at Taron Egerton to replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the MCU, and thanks to AI we can see what that might look like. We generated some images of Egerton as the clawed mutant and he certainly fits the role. It’s no wonder that he’s been a fan-favorite choice for so long:

Taron Egerton has the stature and acting chops to take on Wolverine, and may even look more comic-book accurate than Hugh Jackman. While Jackman’s mark on the role will forever be remembered, he’s not quite as immortal as the mutant he plays on screen. The MCU will eventually need to bring someone else onboard for their ongoing plans.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Hugh Jackman’s reign as Wolverine is over yet. While many people (including Jackman himself) thought that Logan would be his swansong, Ryan Reynolds managed to convince him to come back one more time for Deadpool 3. This means that Jackman’s Wolverine will officially be in an MCU movie, but the multiverse means we can easily have another actor replace him in the near future.

Other than Hugh Jackman’s appearance in Deadpool 3, we don’t really know what Marvel has planned for the future of Wolverine and the X-Men. We actually heard the word ‘X-Men’ uttered on-screen in the She-Hulk series (albeit in a very meta context) and we found out that Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan is actually a mutant. We also saw Patrick Stewart reprise the role of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though he was quickly disposed of by Scarlet Witch (with some theories saying this attack is what caused his condition in Logan).

We really don’t even know what kind of role Hugh Jackman is going to play in the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie. The Deadpool movies have all had multiple members of the X-Men, so this could be the perfect opportunity to properly introduce them to the MCU. Some fans are also wondering if the X-Men will be introduced through some sort of multiverse shenanigans.

In any case, we shouldn’t count on seeing Hugh Jackman take up the claws again after Deadpool 3. Actors like Taron Egerton should be able to take up the mantel and carry the MCU version of the X-Men into the future. Undoubtedly, Marvel has big plans for the X-Men since they were barred from using them for so long.

While Hugh Jackman’s performance will be missed and Egerton (or whoever is officially annoucned) will have big shoes to fill, it definitely seems like the right move going forward. It’s going to be great to see all of the ways Marvel integrates the X-Men characters in their universe and a cast of fresh faces is just the reboot the X-Men franchise might need. Of course, there are plenty of other roles to cast, but someone like Egerton as Wolverine is definitely a step in the right direction.

We’ll get to see Hugh Jackman return again as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 on November 8, 2024. You can also catch the revival of the animated X-Men show titled X-Men 97′ on Disney+ later in 2023. Stay tuned for more MCU rumors and news.
