House Of The Dragon Star Turned Down Game Of Thrones For A Wild Reason
Paddy Considine recently revealed he turned down Game of Thrones after he was told the series was about dragons.
Sometimes actors are quite instinctual when it comes to taking parts or shooting them down. However, like most people, mistakes are also made at times. That is the case for House of the Dragon star, Paddy Considine. He recently revealed that he shot down a starring role in Games of Thrones when he was told that the series was “about dragons.” He claimed to not even read the script and just passed it over. That is insane considering the show became a cultural phenomenon. His mistake was certainly learned from, as the man is now starring in the spinoff series, as he portrays King Viserys Targaryen.
The Targaryen family is widely known because of Game of Thrones. The series introduced everyone to the story of the “Mad King.” King Aerys II Targaryen succumbed to madness through his inbreeding lineage and ruled by murdering plenty of people. Daenerys Targaryen knew of this and still attempted to rule before she also became power-hungry and murderous. King Viserys Targaryen in the House of the Dragon is meant to be a beloved king, one that lived far before the Mad King took the Iron Throne. However, as we all know, good kings are often driven to insanity. That is the case for most of the Targaryen family. As you can see, Paddy Considine was likely thrust into knowing all this and happily signed on for the spinoff series.
We are not sure who Paddy Considine would have portrayed in Game of Thrones, but seems the man had lost out on a big part after apparently not wanting to be in a show about “dragons.” The funny thing is that Game of Thrones had not shown a dragon at all until Daenerys Targaryen started to rise to power. House of the Dragon, on the other hand, has many more dragons than were shown in Game of Thrones. Even though he ended up passing up a starring role in a show about dragons, he is now in a show that is about dragons.
House of the Dragon centers around the Targaryen, who are known to wield the power of dragons, which is why they had been on the Iron Throne for so long. This new spinoff series is also going to be introducing the world to a reported 17 different dragons, each with a different personality. Daenerys only controlled three in the original series. The series will show the Targaryen family at the height of their power before the civil war broke out known as the Dance of the Dragons.
House of the Dragon will be premiering on HBO starting on Sunday, August 21. With all the drama surrounding the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, we are not sure if the spinoff series will last more than one season, but that is the hope right now. Hopefully, Paddy Considine making up for his past mistake will not be short-lived. We honestly can’t wait to see what the new spinoff series has to offer. It can’t be any worse than the final season of Game of Thrones.
