House Of The Dragon Season Finale Leak Is Very Bad For HBO

House of the Dragon had its season finale leak online and it is causing quite the stir over at HBO headquarters.

Over its almost 10-episode first season, House of the Dragon has been a hit among fans who flocked to it following the 2019 finale of the series that started it all – Game of Thrones. And just like its predecessor, House of the Dragon has fallen prey to a leak just ahead of the final episode of Season 1. The stolen screening proves that Lord Larys isn’t the only one with a few secrets up his sleeves.

Since word began spreading, HBO has been looking into the House of the Dragon leak with a spokesperson telling Variety that they believe it came from a distributor somewhere in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa. During their comments, the spokesperson made the matter known and said that the company was “aggressively monitoring” the situation along with “pulling these copies from the internet.” Sending out their apologies to the fans, the representative hoped that the lower-grade version of the episode wouldn’t stop those from tuning in to see it again in 4K when it lands on both HBO and HBO Max.

And if we can wager a bet, it’s that the online House of the Dragon leak won’t stop many from either shielding their eyes from the early dropped version or still heading to one of the two platforms to catch it on Sunday. With a season as dark as this one has been – and we mean literally – it’s hard to imagine what would even appear on a less than 4K picture, leaving us to believe that HBO won’t lose much of its viewership due to the blunder. After all, Game of Thrones faced multiple leaking events over its eight-season run and they still crushed the competition when it came to eyes on the screens every week.

Outside the fortified castle walls of House of the Dragon, leaks have been bursting through the pipes of a variety of anticipated upcoming productions. Just last week, DCEU’s yet-to-be-released Black Adam had its end credits scene leaked, while their superhero competitors over at Marvel fell victim to the same crime when the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer was prematurely put out for the world to see. And then, of course, there was the other recent leak of Indiana Jones 5, a production that has up until now kept a tight lid on its proceedings..

As for House of the Dragon, it’s no shock to us as to why someone made the decision to leak the big Season 1 finale. With (spoiler alert) King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) dead and his son Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) now sitting on the throne after a little miscommunication between Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the King moments before his demise, it appears as though a civil war is about to break out. Not knowing what fate will befall Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Daemon (Matt Smith), and the rest of their family, audiences are being kept on the edge of their seats waiting for what will happen come Sunday – unless they already found their answers elsewhere.
