Before reading this article, be wary, be very wary indeed. Spoilers ahead! For those people who haven’t watched Peacemaker on HBO Max, the forthcoming news will make no sense. However, anyone and everyone should watch Peacemaker, John Cena, James Gunn and company delivered a funny, poignant and bombastic action-comedy series that worked so well with audiences that a second series is in the works. The finale of the show was a great way to send off Peacemaker’s first series, and it came with a twist. The Justice League showed up! Or at least, some of them did. After Peacemaker and his team have saved the day, Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash turn up, along with blacked-out silhouettes of Wonder Woman and Superman. John Cena’s Peacemaker hilariously quips that they’re too late and leaves them behind, not before ridiculing Aquaman. It’s a fun cameo and fits perfectly well with the tone of the series. However, the omission of Henry Cavill has caused quite a stir amongst fans.

It is not hard to tell that the silhouette of Superman is modelled on Henry Cavill’s appearance as the iconic character. It would seem this has stirred fans of the British Actor’s version of ‘Supes.’ All across Twitter #HenryCavillSuperman has been trending. Fans are calling for the actor t return as Superman in future DC cinematic projects.

“We don’t want him in the shadows,” says this Twitter user. This sentiment is echoed by many over users across the social media platform. The message is clear, fans want Henry Cavill to fly back into the DC Cinematic Universe. This can be seen in the Tweet below, where a fan passionately declares who Superman is and should be going forward in cinemas.

Another point to note in this tweet is that the user has tagged Warner Bros in the post. This comes as no surprise, as DC fans have been at war with Warner Bros for some time now. The cause of the conflict? Justice League. Or as it is better known, Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Yes, the critically derided Justice League that saw DC’s greatest superheroes team-up has long been mired in controversy. After Zack Snyder left the initial project, Joss Whedon took over, and his handling of the production has come under fire for a number of reasons, be it the negative reception of his final product of the film, or the claims of his problematic nature on set. However, with the launch of HBO Max, DC fans were given a lifeline, Zack Snyder was given the opportunity to reimagine the film in his image, and the four-hour end result was met with wide adoration when it hit the Warner Bros led streamer. However, sadly, the project was confirmed as a one-off. Thus #RestoretheSnyderVerse was born. Fans often take to Twitter in a mob-like fashion emploring Warner Bros to hand the reign over reigns of the DC Cinematic Universe back to Snyder and Henry Cavill’s involvement goes hand in hand with that, as you can see in the tweet below.

The production of the cinematic release of Justice League (2017) was Henry Cavill’s last canonical appearance as the character Superman. He made his debut as the character in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013) before returning with the director again in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Cavill’s future as the character appears murky at best, with no clear direction on where Warner Bros is going with the character beyond the stand-alone Superman Project with a black actor in the lead role. Henry Cavill has often stated his love of the character and his wish to return to the role, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said, “There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity.” Fans across Twitter will likely remain vocal until Cavill gets his wish. For now though, the future of The Man of Steel lies in the hands of Warner Bros.
