Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is heavily up in the air. Recently, a new Superman project was announced. It’s being produced by the J.J. Abrams company, Bad Robot. Ta-Nehisi Coates will be writing. And while we know it takes place in the Superman universe, no one has said anything about Cavill being involved. They also haven’t said that Clark Kent himself appears in the new production. At this point, it all adds fuel to the big question surrounding Cavill: Will we see him play Superman again? And if not, then what?

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Henry Cavill is now talking to Warner Bros. about the possibility of starring in a different franchise for the studio. At this point, Richtman claims that Cavill is still mad at WB. Previously, Richtman has said that Cavill blames DC Films President Walter Hamada for his current predicament. Despite this anger, Richtman says that Cavill is willing to continue working with them and is angling to headline a new franchise.  Of course, Cavill is still currently the star of The Witcher for Netflix, one of their biggest hits. And while it is concerning for Henry Cavill that he hasn’t been cast in any projects as Clark Kent, there haven’t been any announcements saying he’ll never play the role again.

In other updates and rumors from behind-the-scenes, some have seemed hopeful that something will work out for Henry Cavill to remain in the role. In a show of support, director Zack Snyder called Cavill “our” Superman. Similarly, Dwayne Johnson reportedly wants the actor to play the Man of Steel in Black Adam. We’ve also heard rumors that there is a battle happening inside the studio, with many fighting to keep Superman going with the current actor. These types of updates have been small and subtle but speak to people involved hoping the best for the actor.

Superman Man of Steel

As for Henry Cavill himself, he hasn’t spoken out publicly about his career as Superman. The most we’ve gotten is hints from his Instagram. In a recent post, he congratulated director Zack Snyder on officially getting the Snyder Cut version of Justice League released to the public. That was a long hard battle for the director and his fans. It now shows his own take on the movie, which features the actor as Clark Kent. In the Instagram post, Cavill spoke to how Snyder never gave up. He tagged the post #HopeNeverDies. Is the actor just talking about Snyder here, or is he hinting that he shares that spirit as well? Is he holding onto hope that he’ll be cast as the Man of Steel in a project again soon?

It’s hard to know what’s going to happen next. After Man of Steel in 2013, most expected that we’d see Man of Steel 2 happen soon after. While we’ve seen more Henry Cavill in DC Extended Universe projects, he hasn’t had another solo film. Why? Did they forget about him? Sometimes, it seems that way.

While Henry Cavill is apparently having these ongoing discussions about his future as Superman, he is also working on The Witcher. After a setback from a recent injury, production is moving forward. Hopefully, we’ll get to see something from Cavill as Superman eventually, but if it doesn’t happen, we’ll still see more work from the actor soon.
