You know you’ve reached a certain height of acting and industry franchise fame when you’ve played multiple characters that fans can actually imagine squaring off against each other. That’s the case with Henry Cavill these days who, in addition to multiple concurrent projects going, has more coming in the pipeline as well. Recently we got a taste of some fan art on Instagram that pitted two of Cavill’s most popular characters in a visually stunning scene.

The Instagram post was shared by user @erathrim20 who titled it “God vs. Mutant”. It shows Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher standing on the ground wielding his sword Zireael which in this scene is glowing green (Kryptonite?). Above him, we see just the outline of the bottom part of the iconic red cape floating in the air. That, of course, is his Superman character from the DC Extended Universe. They are standing on a gray landscape, in what looks to be glowing with some kind of magic. Check out the awesome Henry Cavill post:

Of course, we are never going to see this kind of actual standoff between the characters for obvious reasons. And it’s hard to imagine Geralt standing a chance, even with a Kryptonite sword against the Man of Steel. This is more an homage to what Henry Cavill has been able to do on the big and small screen, taking on two characters who resonate so well with a larger audience. It’s such a visually stunning scene that acts as a reminder of what Cavill has accomplished in the industry.

And for Henry Cavill, though these characters appear about to throw down in the Instagram post, it’s interesting because Superman and Gerald of Rivia are at two very different points on the production timeline right now. On the one hand, The Witcher just wrapped up filming its second season for the incredibly popular show on Netflix. The video game adaptation has been a total win for the streamer, posting some of their strongest numbers to date.

Meanwhile, Henry Cavill as Superman in the DC Extended Universe continues to be a source of much speculation and rumor-milling around the industry. News flies around almost weekly around the will-they-won’t-they nature of the character. Coming off Zack Snyder’s Justice League it looked like we might see a firmer commitment to Cavill in the role. But it’s been quite the opposite with Warner Bros. deciding to instead reboot the character with JJ Abrams on as producer and Ta-Nehisi Coates penning the script. It’s been rumored that the next version of the character will be a black actor, leaving Henry Cavill out of the mix.

This all leaves Henry Cavill in a bit of state of flux in DC and there’s some chance we never see him on the big screen as Superman. But he’s got other projects in the works that will more than fill his time. In addition to The Witcher, he’s also set to reprise his Sherlock Holmes role when Enola Holmes comes back for a second movie. And he’s also been cast in the lead of a Highlander reboot as well. In the meantime, we can dream about what it would look like if these Henry Cavill characters actually ever did square off in some fashion. Not many actors can claim that kind of thing.
