Harry Styles

Things are pretty good for Harry Styles right now. His third album, Harry’s House, is breaking records left and right, with four of the singles concurrently in the US Billboard Top Ten (the first British solo musician to ever achieve that feat). He also is shifting more and more into acting, after debuting in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and popping up as the Titan Eros (Starfox, if you’re nasty) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Eternals. Fans are especially excited to see Harry Style in the upcoming film My Policeman, which just dropped its first teaser. Check it out:

Harry Styles stars in My Policeman as Tom Burgess, a policeman in Brighton in 1957, alongside David Dawson as museum curator Patrick Hazlewood and Emma Corrin as school teacher Marion Taylor. The movie alternates between the 1950s and the 1990s, in which the trio is then played Linus Roache, Gina McKee, and Rupert Everett. The plot follows a secret affair between Harry Styles and David Dawson, while Styles marries Emma Corrin against a backdrop of changing social mores and sexuality in the United Kingdom. The teaser trailer also has a lot of faces looking pensive and being artfully framed in golden light, so this whole thing is probably going to be pretty emotional.

The Harry Styles-led My Policeman is adapted from Bethan Roberts’s 2012 novel of the same name and is being distributed by Amazon Studios. It is an interesting move for Styles to go with a relatively low-key movie like My Policeman at perhaps his apex of commercial appeal, but he could very well be trying to double down on his image as a thinking person’s vaguely sexually fluid pop star. Considering his first movie was set during the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk, it could also just be that Harry Styles has a thing for movies set in the middle part of the 20th century.

To add a little more credence to that theory, Harry Styles will also be starring in Don’t Worry Darling, a new psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde set in the 1950s. In that film, he stars with Florence Pugh as a young couple living in a company town who begin to have misgivings about their seemingly perfect existence. Harry Styles and Florence Pugh are joined by Chris Pine, Nick Kroll, and Gemma Chan as well as Olivia Wilde herself.

The transformation of Harry Styles from boy band reality show contestant to bonafide film star continues apace, so it will be interesting to see if My Policeman continues to set the kind of period piece movie he seems fond of. It will receive a limited theatrical release on October 21, 2022 and presumably go on to Amazon Prime Video sometime after that. It is not currently known if Harry Styles will be reprising his role of Eros in the MCU any time soon (with or without a drunken Patton Oswalt as his sidekick), but if they decide to make a Marvel movie set in 1950s England any time soon, he will doubtlessly be there.
