We are about to get a very exciting and very welcome return to Hogwarts in just a few weeks with the original cast and more set to take place in a little reunion. It should be a fun time, reflecting back on one of the biggest franchises, both book, and movie, to really ever come along. And now there is word that even more Harry Potter projects could be in store for us down the line. The Hollywood Reporter (via Screenrant)  has it that Warner Bros. is thinking about ways they can adapt more stories from this universe and get even more Harry Potter into our lives. I think fans would definitely be on board with this plan.

This word about possible new Harry Potter projects came from Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff who brought it up on a company investor conference call this week. While there was no firm discussion about any specific new movie or series, there is clearly discussion happening on this front. Sarnoff said, “We would love to develop more original Harry Potter series, and we regularly talk to JK Rowling and her team. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon, and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World, and who Harry is.”

Clearly, the first line of development on these kinds of projects and ideas would have to be with creator JK Rowling. And if the conversations are in fact happening more and more, then we could be closer than ever to a new Harry Potter series in the works. There is clearly still an appetite for stories from this world. The third movie in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, The Secrets of Dumbledore, is set to release next April and will be the first one since the part of Gellert Grindewald was recast from Johnny Depp to Mads Mikkelsen. The first two movies in that set combined for over $1.4 billion in ticket sales. This third one could definitely keep pace.

And then there is the Harry Potter reunion happening on New Years Day, airing on HBO Max. This will be the 20 year anniversary of the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone hitting the big screen. A number of cast members will be returning to tell stories about the film franchise. The main trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will be there along with others. The early trailer for the reunion showed as much with folks from the movies getting invitations to join the Hogwarts Express and head back into this world. Though it’s worth noting that JK Rowling herself will not be there. She’s been embattled in controversy around her thoughts concerning the transgender movement.

It’s hard to say what a new Harry Potter series would look like though there are plenty of stories in this universe to mine, or it could be an original idea that fits into the aforementioned canon. Rowling did write the play, The Cursed Child which dealt with the timeline around the core cast well into their adult years with children of their own. While this got a stage adaptation, it hasn’t made its way to the screen yet. Whatever is in store, it sure seems like the Harry Potter world is only ramping up these days.
