HBO Max surprised fans when they released a first look trailer for Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. The new video shows some of the fan-favorite original cast members getting their Hogwarts letters and then arriving at the famous train station platform, 9 and 3/4, to catch the train to the Wizarding World’s most famous of schools.

You can see the Harry Potter cast return in the trailer below.

The three Harry Potter cast members weren’t all easy to recognize in this video. The first one up was the easiest to miss, because they didn’t show his face and he wasn’t in his iconic costume. They tried to make it easier by showing the actor’s name on his Hogwarts letter but made it more difficult by not showing his full face. In case you missed it, that was Robbie Coltrane first spotted with letter in hand. The actor became beloved to fans in the role of Rubeus Hagrid, Hogwart’s groundkeeper, a character he played throughout all eight films. He can be spotted at the :06 timestamp in the trailer.

Shortly thereafter, the Harry Potter trailer gives a better look at its next returning cast member: Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the series. At the 0:11 mark in the trailer, he looks back over his shoulder. Though his face is still in shadow, the trailer shows him well enough. All grown up, the actor has changed quite a bit since his childhood days in Sorcerer’s Stone.

Then, at the 0:14 timestamp, the trailer shows Mark Williams in the window of the Hogwarts Express. Mark Williams played the father of the Weasley Family, Arthur Weasley, throughout the Harry Potter series. The trailer goes on to show people traveling through the station but only showing the backs of their heads, often wearing hats, letting the audience imagine their favorite characters walking through the famous train platform.

The trailer does a good job of letting fans know some of their favorite returning Harry Potter characters will be in the special. News headlines have already announced that the golden trio–Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint–will also be returning for the HBO Max special. In case fans missed that, the trailer highlights their name in a golden script across the screen. It then lists out other returning stars that fans know well. These names include Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, and Evanna Lynch. Clearly, fans of the franchise have a lot of reasons to show up and stream this one.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will stream on HBO Max on January 1, 2022. The trailer makes sure to mention that all eight Harry Potter movies are also available for streaming in the meantime. This may be an important detail, as many fans of the series rewatch the movies every year during the holiday season, which will likely put them in the mood to see Daniel Radcliffe joined by the rest of the original cast for the new special.
