Harrison Ford fans may be dying with excitement for the actor’s return to his iconic role as Indiana Jones in the upcoming film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but judging by the actor’s own feelings about his latest role in the Yellowstone spinoff 1923, the show won’t be one to be missed. During an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Ford said that his new cattle-wranglin’ character was unlike any other part he’s ever taken on, referring to his character as having “complexity” and being on a “moral journey,” making this casting much more in-depth than most. The Star Wars legend added that his hope is for “audiences to see the struggle of a determined man in specific circumstances.”

If you haven’t heard about Harrison Ford or the Yellowstone prequel, the Air Force One star will appear in the series opposite Helen Mirren where the duo will transform into Jacob and Cara Dutton, respectively. The couple are the ancestors of Yellowstone’s John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) and the series will better shape the story of the family’s long-running ownership of the Montana-based ranch. The story is the second prequel to spawn from Paramount+’s smash-hit with the Dutton’s origins told last year via the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill-led 1883.

So, what can we expect from 1923 in the way of a storyline? Well, we know that the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led Yellowstone prequel will take us back to the titular year and reveal the struggles that faced the family. From prohibition to the Great Depression, history will hit the Dutton family hard as they tirelessly paddle to keep their heads and livelihood above water.

Along with the show’s award-winning stars, the series will also include the likes of Sebastian Roché, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, Jacques Schembri, Brandon Sklenar, and more. The Taylor Sheridan-created series is set to play out over two seasons with eight episodes in each. For actors like Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren who are no doubt more choosey with the parts they sign on for, anything Yellowstone related is sure to be a no-brainer hit.

Beyond Harrison Ford’s Yellowstone universe takeover, the franchise is also preparing to give audiences more content through another spinoff titled 6666. While the other projects have been prequels centered around the Dutton family, 6666 will take place in the present day at the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas. Although the Texan ranch’s name has worked its way into its origin series during Yellowstone’s fourth season, a more in-depth storyline and call sheet hasn’t been released at this time.

Outside the cattle guards and log cabins of 1923, the upcoming year is bound to be an unforgettable one for the Witness actor. Not only will fans soon catch Harrison Ford taking on the wild west, but they’ll also see him don his iconic fedora and head out on a new Nazi-bashing journey in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, marking the fifth film in the four-decade-spanning franchise. The cast list is stacked with the legendary actor being joined in action by names like Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen.

To say that it’s a great time to be a fan of the Blade Runner star would be an understatement. Not only will Harrison Ford be appearing in the Yellowstone prequel and Indiana Jones 5, but he’ll also be joining the MCU in 2024 to bring the action in both Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts. For now, dust off your cowboy boots and get ready to rope some cattle when 1923 rides onto the Paramount Network on December 18.
