The Mandalorian’s second season ended with a major shocker, as Luke Skywalker made a surprise cameo in the season finale. Yet even though this moment was exciting, many thought the special effects it took to bring a young Luke Skywalker back into the Star Wars universe looked sort of silly. However, despite this, a new rumor suggests that Han Solo might be the next character to make an appearance on a Disney+ Star Wars series.

Gossip entertainment writer Daniel Richtman stated the rumor on his Patreon page, saying that Han Solo is next in line to join the adventures of Din Djardin. Considering The Mandalorian takes place five years after Return of the Jedi and several decades before the new trilogy, there’s plenty of missing time the show could explain. However, it’s unclear where Richtman got this information from, and Richtman has also recently started another Harrison Ford-centered rumor that Indiana Jones might be getting his own Disney+ series. It’s entirely possible Richtman is just on a Ford kick right now.

But considering the mostly positive response, the appearance from Luke Skywalker made on The Mandalorian, Han Solo does seem like the next obvious major Star Wars character for Disney to revive. While Mark Hamill was on set for his Mandalorian cameo of sorts, it seems unlikely Harrison Ford would be as invested, considering between Star Wars and Blade Runner 2049, the actor seems to be saying goodbye to his most famous characters over the last few years.

The rumor also doesn’t seem to specify that Han Solo would be appearing on The Mandalorian necessarily, but could just be appearing in the near future on a Star Wars series. The Mandalorian already has three spinoffs in the works, with Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic, and The Book of Boba Fett debuting in December.

While there are plenty of Star Wars shows to choose from, it seems like the most obvious choice for a Han Solo appearance would be Lando, especially since it’s one of the more mysterious Star Wars television projects in the works. Justin Simien, the creator of Dear White People, is working on the show that will follow Lando Calrissian. It’s unclear if Lando will focus on the younger Calrissian, who was played by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story, or Billy Dee Williams’ older version of the character, most recently seen in The Rise of Skywalker

It would also be interesting to see what Disney’s approach to Han Solo would be, whether they would mostly rely on special effects like with Luke Skywalker, or if Solo would be recast. At this point, Disney could even theoretically bring back Alden Ehrenreich to play the younger version of the character. But if or when Disney brings Han Solo into their Star Wars television universe, it seems highly unlikely that Harrison Ford would be involved in any way.

If there’s anything that this past season of The Mandalorian has taught viewers, it’s that the past of Star Wars is still ripe for consideration in this new Star Wars television universe. The Mandalorian threw in characters and references to various animated series, revived Boba Fett, and gave audiences the return of young Luke Skywalker. With plenty of characters to choose from, Han Solo does make quite a bit of sense as one of the next characters for Disney to bring to Disney+ in some capacity.
