As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its successful run into new phases, many are looking to a new generation of stars to front future projects. Striking a balance between the legacy of fan favorite characters, as well as introducing new ones to existing franchises, Marvel has its work cut out for them. There have been many instances in Phase 4 where some films have outperformed others, but leaning on familiar names and faces may be the key to success for superhero flicks. Fortunately, one new addition to the MCU may be a familiar one to some comic book fans as Daniela Melchior has been confirmed for a new role.

As reported by Deadline, there will be a new character in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, played by Daniela Melchior. Melchior will take on a small role in the newest inclusion to the franchise, but there is no word at this time exactly what character she will play. What is known at this point is that the Portuguese actor will not play Moondragon, which was a rumor in the past, but has since been debunked by director James Gunn via comicbook.com.

Daniela Melchior may not be a household name to American audiences just yet, but she is most likely known to comic book fans because of her involvement in other franchises. Recently seen in James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe entry, The Suicide Squad as Ratcatcher 2, Melchior is noted for her performances in the mini series Pecado and the series The Payback in her home country of Portugal. She was also the Portuguese voice for Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which was originally voiced in the English version by actor Hailee Steinfeld.

As Daniela Melchior’s star is on the rise, the hype for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and other additions to MCU’s Phase 4 is palpable. As Giant Freakin Robot reported, many of the characters from the Guardians franchise will also be featured in the upcoming release of Thor: Love and Thunder, which debuts this summer. There is also no word yet on whether or not Melchior will be featured in the fourth installment of the Thor franchise, but her involvement in Guardians may be limited so there might not be room for crossover.

One thing to note about Daniela Melchior is that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looks to just be the start of her action star contributions. As IMDb details, the actor is set to appear in the upcoming thriller Assassin Club with Henry Golding and Sam Neill, as well as Neil Jordan’s Marlowe with Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange. If that wasn’t enough, Melchior has also signed on to the tenth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Fast X, which is currently filming with Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and franchise heroes Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez. Fast X is set to arrive in theaters May 19, 2023, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has wrapped and will debut May 2023 as well.
