Now that James Gunn is officially running things at DC, there are growing rumors that his favorite stars in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie series might also jump ship and head to DC. Though that would not be a shock to most, as they are actors, and would certainly go where they can get substantial parts. Gunn also fueled those rumors by stating to Empire, “I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]…but I also know I will work again with all those people individually again.”

James Gunn is working with Peter Safran to completely overhaul the DC Universe, and we know that he plans to bring in some of the lesser-known or underutilized DC heroes. Showcasing the ragtag heroes is a bit of his specialty, so it makes sense that many of the Guardians of the Galaxy actors could go to DC. We could see Dave Bautista taking on the role of Lobo, though rumor has it that role is going to Jason Momoa.

Though James Gunn has certainly fueled the rumors of the Guardians of the Galaxy actors heading to DC, we would also believe that would never happen simply because many of them are tired of their given roles. Zoe Saldana has expressed plenty of frustrations having worked with Marvel for so many years. Bautista also recently stated that he did not want to only be remembered as Drax and wanted to engage in more dramatic roles.

James Gunn has also stated that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 movie is going to be the last time that we see the entire team together, so it would make sense for many of them to head to DC for more substantial superhero roles. Still, it would make more sense for many of the actors to just part ways with the MCU entirely. Many actors like Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista have many other roles in the pipeline that would prevent them from committing to longer contracts for Marvel.

Though the Guardians of the Galaxy are breaking up, that does not mean they would immediately head to DC to work with James Gunn either. Many of the actors could return in some grand style for a movie like Avengers: Secret Wars. The movie is meant to bring together many of the past and present heroes, and their different timeline versions, so we could see many of the Guardian of the Galaxy team returning for that movie.

Marvel is changing many things about its release schedule as well, so it could just give the Guardians of the Galaxy actors the kind of break that wouldn’t make them jump over to DC. Eventually, everyone gets tired of playing the same role, which is why both Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. left behind their iconic Marvel characters.

Despite what happens, all the Guardians of the Galaxy actors would certainly be welcomed over at DC. There need to be some higher-caliber actors taking on some coveted roles in Gunn’s new universe. This is not discrediting actors like Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, but DC certainly needs some heavy hitters to help bring the film division out of obscurity.
