See Grogu Grown Up And Embracing His Mandalorian And Jedi Heritage

Adult Grogu as a Mandalorian Jedi looks incredible.

Grogu is absolutely adorable, and everyone knows it, but could Grogu ever look cool? Based on Instagram user Jason Pastrana’s amazing concept art, the answer is a resounding yes. Jason took to the social media platform to share several images of Grogu grown up and donning Mandalorian armor, lightsabers, guns, and even the legendary Darksaber:

Pastrana, who was previously an artist at Disney, gave us a few different concepts for Grogu’s grown-up design. In a call-back to Star Wars‘ samurai-inspired origins, the first image features Grogu donning a straw hat and a lightsaber. It also perfectly mixes in the Western elements that also inspired the franchise with a bandoleer and a pistol in his other hand.

As if that look isn’t cool enough, Pastrana possibly one-ups it with the second design that features Grogu grown up with a Mandalorian helmet inspired by the mythosaur. Grogu has never looked more like his adoptive daddy Din Djarin than he does here. Pastrana goes back to the samurai theme in the next design, giving Grogu a top knot instead of headwear.

Pastrana also smartly shortens the Darksaber that Grogu could wield when he’s grown up. His shorter stature makes the Darksaber look more like a tanto blade, furthering the samurai aesthetic. It’s hard to choose which of these looks is the best.

While we wait to see what Grogu grown-up will actually look like, we’ll have to continue following the young alien‘s growth in The Mandalorian’s future seasons. The most recent series just ended with a satisfying finale after a relatively uneven season. However, Grogu added a piece of Beskar armor to his arsenal this season, along with his previously gifted chainmail that Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin gifted him before.

It’s entirely possible that it might be a long time before we see the official version of Grogu grown up. The young Mandalorian foundling is already 100 years old, as his species ages much slower than many other Star Wars species. Unless The Mandalorian does a significant time jump, it seems unlikely that we will see this version of Grogu anytime soon.

This is especially the case because a Grogu that is grown up will likely mean that he has far outlived his adoptive father. Considering Djarin has a normal lifespan, there’s little chance he’ll be around for the adult stages of Grogu’s life. But it’s entirely possible that the series could be leading up to this eventuality, with Grogu becoming the titular Mandalorian after a time jump.

If we’re going to see a Grogu who is all grown up and donning Mandalorian armor, our best bet might be the recently announced Rise of Skywalker follow-up film that stars Daisy Ridley. The Mandalorian takes place roughly 25 years before The Force Awakens, and the new Daisy Ridley film will take place around 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. This would also give Grogu the opportunity to help Rey as she tries to find a place for the Jedi in the new world.

With the Daisy Ridley film taking place around 40 years after the beginning of The Mandalorian, that should give Grogu plenty of time to grow up and come into his own. Of course, all of this is just conjecture at this point. For now, you can continue to watch baby Grogu in The Mandalorian, which is fully streamable on Disney+.
