Prequel series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has, according to FlixPatrol, managed to dethrone Paramount+ favorite, Star Trek: Picard. Movin’ and groovin’ its way onto the service, the series acts as an origin story to the beloved musical film led by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. While no one may have seen it coming, Grease fans have made their voices heard by giving the series bragging rights and streaming it all the way to the Top 10 list.

Moving back to the recognizable hallways of Rydell High, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies follows a group of young women on the outskirts of the social norm hoping to make a community for themselves. While the boy gang, The T-Birds already exists, the new Paramount+ series sees the young women bonding over their differences and forming a crew of their own. Leading in the series are Marisa Davila, Ari Notartomaso, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Tricia Fukuhara, Jason Schmidt, Shanel Bailey, Madison Thompson, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, and Jonathan Nieves.

Because Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies takes place in a world before Danny and Sandy’s love affair, audiences shouldn’t be expecting any of the future T-Birds or Pink Ladies that we know and love to show up, but at the same time, you never know. For now, the only character appearing in the production that was also featured in Randal Kleiser’s 1978 hit feature is Principal McGee, who is played by Jackie Hoffman, and at the time of Rise of the Pink Ladies is still working her way up the ladder as the Assistant Principal.

While Grease’s Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfied-led sequel, Grease 2 didn’t exactly hit a high note with audiences when it was released in the early 1980s, it seems as though fans are finally ready for a new telling of the story. Now over four decades since the follow-up movie solidified itself as a major flop, those backing the Paramount+ series are tasting success with the origin story of how the Pink Ladies came to be.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ latest Top 10 title grab is especially impressive when you look at how many celebrated shows the streaming service has available for its subscribers. From 1923 to the upcoming 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, Paramount+ is the home to the beloved Yellowstone universe and has also recently brought audiences new favorites including Tulsa King and School Spirits. The home of a slew of new Star Trek productions, the platform is also the place to not only catch Star Trek: Picard but also Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Duking it out with Picard was certainly no walk in the park for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies as the Star Trek series has seen soaring viewership numbers during its third and supposedly final season. Pulling out all the stops and giving their loyal fandom what they want, those backing the series have finally reunited many members of the crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation, giving them one last expedition together. As the days go on and audiences find their new favorite stories, we’re wondering how long Rise of the Pink Ladies will be able to hold onto their Top 10 status.
