Legendary Pictures Monsterverse has already given audiences Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and finally the ultimate clash of the titans; Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). The ultimate big monster screen mash-up that was Godzilla vs. Kong already has a follow-up in the works and now cbr.com reports that fans can see the first real good look at Godzilla vs. Kong 2. Cbr.com has caught the footage courtesy of 7NEWS Brisbane, which you can see below.

The Godzilla vs. Kong 2 footage shows a large group of extras on a Gold Coast Beach in Queensland, Australia. The beach down under has been given a Rio de Janeiro makeover with the live film set dressed up to look like the iconic Brazillian city. In the footage, the extras are instructed to look out at an oncoming threat from the water, then look up, before running away from the shore screaming and fearing for their lives from an unseen monster. Could it be Godzilla, Kong, or another monstrous threat?

One monster that could be causing the beachgoers at Queensland aka Rio to run for their lives is Son of Kong. King Kong’s offspring has long been thought to be the centerpiece of Godzilla vs. Kong 2, as GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT has previously learned from a variety of sources. If not Son of Kong, the most likely monsters that could be breaking cover in sunny Rio would be Kong or Godzilla, given their central roles in Godzilla vs. Kong. One member of the crowd told 7NEWS Brisbane that the nature of the scene being shot in Queensland was “top secret” and had something to do with a “gorilla” and a “dinosaur.” The descriptions may not be on point but that certainly sounds like Godzilla and King Kong are set to return, or Godzilla and newcomer Son of Kong, or all three. Perhaps the Hollow Earth Lizard that was previously seen briefly in Godzilla vs. Kong.

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 isn’t the only Monsterverse project that Legendary Pictures have in the works. As well as the highly anticipated feature film sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong, Legendary also has two Monsterverse television series in the works. One project is an animated Netflix series Kong: Skull Island – which sees an unfortunate gang of shipwrecked sailors attempting to survive their escape from the titular island King Kong calls home. The other television project in the works within the Monsterverse is for the streaming service Apple TV+ and stars both Kurt and Wyatt Russell. The father-son duo leads a show called Godzilla and the Titans, which follows a family investigating just why Godzilla and his fellow titans have been let off the leash, leaving a lot of destruction in their wake.

With two new series in the works and another mega monster mash-up on the way on March 15th, 2024, in the form of Godzilla vs. Kong 2 (with Adam Wingard returning to direct), things are looking pretty good for Monsterverse fans. With the details on all these projects still pretty hazy, time will tell what direction these two series and incoming feature films take the Monsterverse. Time will also tell just what creatures will be headlining each monster mega fight on screen.
