Recently, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, is no longer employed by Lucasfilm and the company has no plans to work with her in the future. This news came after months of controversial and denigrating social media posts, including what seems to have been the final straw: an Instagram post in which Carano compared being a Republican now to being Jewish during the Holocaust. With Lucasfilm cutting all ties to Carano, it’s no surprise that the company is now pulling toys that bear Carano’s likeness.

According to BigBadToyStore, as posted by Twitter user @TheComixKid, Hasbro has canceled the production of their Star Wars: The Black Series 6” Cara Dune figure. MovieWeb also reports that the planned Vintage Collection figure has also been canceled, but Hasbro still plans to release the Retro Collection version. Considering Lucasfilm is trying to distance themselves from Gina Carano at this point, it’s unclear if they will advertise this Retro Collection Cara Dune toy, or if they will keep producing this figure.

With Gina Carano out of The Mandalorian, it’s unclear what Lucasfilm plans to do with the Cara Dune character. Lucasfilm could try recasting the character, or could just discard the character altogether, as a way to try and forget Carano’s involvement. However, there were rumors that several months ago, Disney planned on announcing a Cara Dune spinoff at their Investor Day, but decided to cancel those plans after Carano’s social media posts.

The implication was that not only would Gina Carano’s Cara Dune get her own spinoff, but that Dune would also tie together many of the other Mandalorian spinoff shows. The rumor was that she would also be appearing in Ahsoka, and that she was possibly planned to be the lead of Rangers of the New Republic. With it seeming like Dune was a major part of what Lucasfilm had planned for the future, it seems like the company will either have to rework their upcoming series, or recast Dune with someone less controversial.

Even though Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian, the larger Star Wars universe, and her own talent agency, she already has her next project in the works. Carano announced that she will be developing, producing, and starring in her own film for the conservative website The Daily Wire. Apparently, this new project will be part of The Daily Wire’s entertainment division and will be produced by Bone Tomahawk producer Dallas Sonnier. It’s unclear what this new project will be about, but trading Pedro Pascal for Ben Shapiro certainly seems like a major downgrade.

In the past, Star Wars has proved that nothing ever goes away, whether it’s bringing back Luke Skywalker for The Mandalorian, or centering an entire miniseries around Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. But Gina Carano might be the first thing in the Star Wars universe to go away for good. Because of that, the few Cara Dune toys that are still in production will likely be major collector’s items, that is, if you want to buy a toy with Gina Carano’s likeness on it.
